Objetivo: Avaliar a qualidade de vida de pessoas com diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Métodos: Estudo transversal, analítico e quantitativo, realizado com amostra de 73 pessoas com diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Coletaram-se os dados por ocasião de visitas domiciliares, por meio de formulário contendo variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas e do questionário Brazilian Version of Problems Areas in Diabetes Scale para avaliação da qualidade de vida relacionada ao diabetes. Resultados: Constataram-se prevalência de mulheres (67,1%), casadas (56,2%), com média de idade de 60,7 anos, com renda de um a dois salários-mínimos (97,3%), ensino fundamental incompleto (78%), com complicações oftalmológicas (83,6%). Evidenciou-se expressivo impacto do diabetes na qualidade de vida (61,6%) em relação aos aspectos emocionais, ao tratamento e à alimentação, com perfil sociodemográfico favorável para desfecho negativo para qualidade de vida. Conclusão: Diante do grau de sofrimento evidenciado, a população estudada deve ser assistida de maneira integral e interdisciplinar.
