ResumenLa parte Norte del Golfo de California presenta una compleja actividad tectónica, además de ser una región sometida a diversos factores oceanográficos y climáticos que modifican constantemente la circulación y composición del agua y la dinámica de los sedimentos. Con el objeto de distinguir los principales rasgos hidrográficos para la columna de agua, así como su batimetría detallada, se analizaron datos de CTD y ecosonda tomados durante mayo de 2007 en las cuencas de Wagner y Consag. La batimetría de las cuencas sugiere una subsidencia ligada a extensión pull-apart. Los taludes que definen el borde oriental de las cuencas se corresponden con la falla lístrica de Wagner, con orientación NNW-SSE. Los resultados indicaron que la columna de agua se encontraba estratificada con una termoclina presente en los primeros 50 metros de profundidad y sólo el 32% de estaciones presentó una capa de mezcla. La temperatura de la columna varió entre 23° en la superficie hasta 15°C en el fondo de las cuencas. La salinidad osciló entre 35.2 en el fondo y 35.8 en la superficie, con ausencia de haloclina. Se identificó un domo de menor salinidad (35.32) que parece desplazarse de sur a norte, de 50 a 150 m de profundidad.
