Resumen. El presente estudio examina, por un lado, la relación entre el uso de implantes cocleares (ICs) y los mecanismos implicados en la adquisición de la lectura en estudiantes sordos con y sin implante coclear, especialmente en aquellos que han recibido el implante de forma precoz, y por otro, los mecanismos que subyacen al aprendizaje de la lectura y las bases lingüísticas implicadas (sintaxis y vocabulario). Algunos estudios han puesto de manifiesto el uso continuo de la Estrategia de Palabras Clave en las personas sordas. Esta estrategia consiste en identificar las palabras con contenido semántico propio e ignorar las palabras funcionales. Fueron evaluados 172 estudiantes sordos y 797 estudiantes oyentes mediante una prueba que determina el nivel lector y tres pruebas, que evalúan el tipo de estrategia empleada en la lectura, y la competencia sintáctica y de vocabulario. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes sordos, incluido el grupo de implantados precoces, usan la Estrategia de Palabras Clave. El uso de esta estrategia se debe a dificultades lingüísticas y una baja capacidad para manejar palabras funcionales. El grado de pérdida auditiva para alumnos con ICs, la edad de implantación y el nivel lector alcanzado (en todos los grupos de sordos) desempeña un papel importante en el uso de la Estrategia de Palabras Clave. En esta situación, se derivan algunas implicaciones educativas.
Diferentes estudios en el ámbito de la comprensión lectora señalan que el vocabulario oral de una lengua, definido por dos variables, amplitud y profundidad, es uno de los factores que más contribuye a esta destreza en lectores típicos; siendo la profundidad, relacionada con la extensión de las representaciones semánticas subyacentes a los conceptos, más influyente que la amplitud, referida a la cantidad de palabras que una persona es capaz de reconocer. Estudios previos muestran las dificultades que el alumnado con sordera presenta en la realización de asociaciones entre palabras, en el establecimiento de relaciones entre significados o en el uso de sinónimos; todas ellas derivadas, principalmente, del déficit lingüístico primario que presentan. El objetivo de este estudio ha sido doble: por un lado, analizar los resultados de aquellas investigaciones que evalúan el rol del vocabulario profundo en la comprensión lectora del alumnado con sordera y, por otro lado, argumentar qué influencia tiene dicha profundidad en esta destreza. Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las principales bases de datos (2010 – 2021). En la búsqueda inicial se identificaron 373 artículos y, una vez aplicados los criterios de inclusión, 8 fueron los que cumplieron con los objetivos previamente definidos. Los resultados mostraron que el reconocimiento del vocabulario profundo en las investigaciones relacionadas con el desarrollo lector del alumnado con sordera podría desembocar en una mejor comprensión de su papel en las habilidades implicadas en dicho proceso. Por ello, es necesario ahondar teóricamente en su tratamiento y en sus implicaciones para la práctica educativa con estudiantes con sordera.
El objetivo del presente trabajo fue doble: determinar los niveles lectores alcanzados por estudiantes sordos que utilizan implantes cocleares (ICs), y evaluar si el uso de los mismos determina sus estrategias lectoras. Participaron 96 estudiantes sordos y 797 estudiantes oyentes con edades comprendidas entre los 6 y los 16 años de diferentes ciudades de toda España. El grupo de estudiantes sordos fue dividido en dos: implantados precoces (n=44), quienes habían recibido un implante antes de los 30 meses, y tardíos (n=52). Como instrumentos de evaluación se utilizó la batería PEALE, Pruebas de Evaluación Analítica de la Lengua Escrita. Los resultados muestran que los niveles lectores alcanzados por el grupo de implantados precozmente no difieren significativamente de los obtenidos por oyentes de su misma edad. Sin embargo, al analizar las estrategias de lectura, todos los estudiantes sordos hacen uso de la estrategia de palabras clave (EPC), que consiste en identificar las palabras de contenido y, a partir de ellas, deducir el significado de la oración sin procesar las palabras funcionales. El uso de la EPC puede deberse a las dificultades que presentan con el manejo de palabras funcionales. Se discute la necesidad de introducir la enseñanza explícita de habilidades morfosintácticas en el currículum de los alumnos sordos.
El trabajo tiene por objetivo la presentación de una prueba de evaluación de los procesos dereconocimiento de la palabra escrita en estudiantes de tercero de infantil y primer y segundo curso de educación primaria. Esta prueba, de aplicación colectiva, está diseñada para evaluar a todo tipo de alumnado, con y sin discapacidad, con y sin problemas del lenguaje, pues se resuelve sin necesidad de dar una respuesta oral por parte del estudiante. El modelo teórico en el que se basa la prueba establece que la comprensión lectora se define por la combinación de dos habilidades, las no específicas de la lectura, comunes a la lengua oral (sintaxis y vocabulario, principalmente), y las habilidades específicas de la misma, aquellas que solo se ponen en marcha exclusivamente cuando leemos y escribimos palabras, siendo una de las más importantes los Procesos de Reconocimiento de la Palabra Escrita. Para que un lector sea considerado experto, es necesario que el funcionamiento de estos procesos se realice con fluidez, es decir, con precisión, (sin cometer errores), y con automaticidad, esto es, sin consumir demasiados recursos cognitivos en estos procesos y poder usarlos en procesos superiores como la comprenisón. Para evaluar la fluidez en la lectura de palabrasen castellano disponemos de varias pruebas de aplicación individual y que requieren una respuesta oral por parte del estudiante. Por este motivo, la prueba que se presenta se compone de 60 ítems representados por un dibujo y tres opciones de respuesta, la palabra correcta y dos distractrores ortográficos que han de completarse (el mayor número de ellos) en tres minutos. A medida que se avanza en la prueba aumenta la complejidad semántica de los ítems. Finalmente, se discute la importancia de utilizar pruebas como esta para la prevención y diagnóstico tempranos de las dificultades a este nivel.
