Ultra-high performance fiber-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC) is usually applied for thin-walled and lean constructions because of its excellent mechanical properties. However, these lightweight constructions such as bridge girders, masts, towers, and railway tracks, for example, are susceptible to oscillations due to cyclic loading. A model describing the fatigue behavior of UHPFRC is required. Therefore, the material behavior of all mixture components and the composite itself, each subjected to cyclic tensile loading, is studied experimentally and numerically on the mesoscale at iBMB, Division of Concrete Construction and Institute of Structural Analysis both at TU Braunschweig. In this paper, first findings concerning bond processes of single and multiple micro steel fibers embedded in ultra-high performance concrete as well as a new geometrically and physically nonlinear bond model are presented. Finely profiled UHPFRC dry joints for segmental componentsThe prefabricated segmental construction method has several advantages over the in‐situ concrete construction. The segments can be precasted under controlled conditions at the precasting yard and are not subject to weather conditions. Furthermore the construction period as well as the costs of falsework and on site can be reduced. Combining this advantageous construction method with the excellent properties of ultra high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), filigree and modular segmental constructions can be produced. The formation of the joints is fundamental for such constructions. Experimental and theoretical research works on finely profiled UHPFRC dry joints have been conducted at the iBMB, Department of Concrete Structures of the TU Braunschweig, and a design model has been formulated, which will be reported in the article.
Tensile Stress‐Strain Relationship for UHPFRC on the basis of DAfStb‐Richtlinie Stahlfaserbeton The concrete compressive strength can be easily determined by using cylinders or cubes, whilst determing the axial concrete tensile strength is much more complex due to its load instruction. Therefore, the axial tensile strength can be determined indirectly by bending test. In this case, however, the load‐displacement curve determined of the bending test has to be converted into a tensile stress‐strain curve. In order to analyse the tensile stress‐strain behavior of ultra‐high performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPFRC), the iBMB, Division of Concrete Construction of the TU Braunschweig, has conducted 4‐point bending tests with standard bending beams 15/15/70 cm made of UHPFRC‐mortar or UHPFRC‐concrete which differed in fiber slenderness and fiber content. A tensile stress‐strain relation for UHPFRC based on the DAfStb‐Richtlinie Stahlfaserbeton was derived from the experimental results and finally validated by applying the finite element method (FEM).
