This research was done based on the needs to improve the learners’ ability in pronunciation of ending –s by using android based application. Android based becomes popular in this era since gadget applies many applications to improve English language proficiency. The aim of the research is to implement the application on android based to improve the learners’ ability in pronouncing ending –s and to find the influencing factors of the improvement. The method of this research was qualitative. This Classroom Action Research was conducted at eight second-year-learners in academic year 2018/2019 at STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. There were tests, fieldnotes, observation, and interview used in the data collecting techniques in this research. The result shows that implementing the application existed on android based learning media to improve learners’ ability in pronouncing ending –s has significantly improved. It can be seen that the learners’ ability in pronouncing ending –s are at the “fairly good” level category with score 56,67 increases to the “good” level category with score 73,75. Some influential factors towards the learners’ improvement were affected by the students’ willingnes to practice differentiating the base form of word given and continuous listening practice to the application which was aimed to obtain the information during the teaching-learning process. In conclusion, the implementation of application on android based can improve the learners’ ability in pronouncing ending –s.
Utilizing collaborative writing strategy in a writing class seems very helpful and beneficial. Through collaborative writing, it can build up critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration as the skills of 21st century of learners in the learning process. The purpose of this research is to investigate English as a foreign language (EFL) learners’ perceptions toward the use of collaborative writing strategy in a writing class. The research method employed was qualitative method with descriptive research design. 51 EFL learners were involved in this research as respondents of this research. The data was collected through questionnaire with 20 statements available underlying four general perceptions so called: perceptions of academic writing concept, perceptions of cooperation, perception of writing skills, and perceptions of learning atmosphere. The data from questionnaire was analyzed descriptively. The findings showed that EFL learners’ perceptions on the implementation of collaborative writing strategy in a writing class was positive. EFL learners’ response towards questionnaire were dominated by response “agree” and “strongly agree”. From this findings, it can be concluded that EFL learners’ perceptions on the application of collaborative writing strategy in a writing class are varied. It is recommends the skills of 21st century can be build up through the implementation of collaborative writing strategy in a writing class.
Kegiatan pengabdian ini didasari oleh kebutuhan guru-guru TK dalam membaca sound symbols yang berkaitan dengan pengucapan yang benar pada kosakata bahasa Inggris untuk level dini yang akan terus diingat oleh peserta didik pada usia ini. Berdasarkan analisis tersebut, pengucapan sebagian besar guru-guru TK di sekolah mitra dianggap masih rendah dalam membaca sound symbols bahasa Inggris. Berdasarkan analisis kebutuhan ini, tim merasa perlu untuk melaksanakan kegiatan workshop/pelatihan untuk guru-guru TK Education 21 Kota Pekanbaru yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca sound symbols berkaitan dengan pengucapan yang benar. Kegiatan ini akan dilakukan dalam 2 sesi. Pada sesi pertama, guru-guru TK di sekolah mitra diberikan pembekalan ilmu tentang sound symbols, dan contoh kosakata pada level usia dini/TK. Selanjutnya, pada sesi kedua, guru-guru TK di sekolah mitra tersebut akan diberikan waktu untuk menjawab pertanyaan sound symbols disertai dengan contoh. Dengan adanya kegiatan ini, tim pelaksana kegiatan menargetkan dan berharap agar guru-guru bahasa Inggris di sekolah mitra mampu mengucapkan kosakata sesuai dengan sound symbols dengan benar dan dapat menerapkannya di kelas.
Reading is an important thing for academic level. Every student must have manyvocabularies to encourage her/his reading skill. The aim of this research is to analyzethe students’ understanding of reading vocabularies of synonyms and antonyms in thehigher education level. Synonyms and antonyms are two important things should bemastered to get better reading comprehension. The method used in this research wasquantitative with survey design. The population same as the sample of this research wasfrom fifth semester students of STIBA Persada Bunda Pekanbaru. The procedures of theresearch were divided into 3 parts. First, students were asked to choose the best choicein the multiple choice for synonyms and anton, number and the wrong number, andgrouped the wrong number into difficulties level. Last, the researcher analyzed thestudents’ ability in reading vocabulary of synonyms and antonyms and concluded theresult of students’ ability in reading vocabulary of synonyms and antonyms inelementary, intermediate, and advanced level. The result of this research showed thatthe students’ ability in reading vocabulary of synonyms and antonyms was categorizedinto “excellent” level with mean score 85. From the three difficulties level of question,the findings of this research were explained every level of question. In synonyms, themean score of students’ ability were 89, 85, and 84 for elementary, intermediate, andadvanced level of question. Whereas, in antonyms, the mean score of students’ abilitywere 97, 85, and 69 for elementary, intermediate, and advanced level of question.
