A graph is hypohamiltonian if it is not Hamiltonian, but the deletion of any single vertex gives a Hamiltonian graph. Until now, the smallest known planar hypohamiltonian graph had 42 vertices, a result due to Araya and Wiener. That result is here improved upon by 25 planar hypohamiltonian graphs of order 40, which are found through computeraided generation of certain families of planar graphs with girth 4 and a fixed number of 4-faces. Let $\gamma_{m,n}$ denote the size of a minimum dominating set in the $m \times n$ grid graph. For the square grid graph, exact values for $\gamma_{n,n}$ have earlier been published for $n \leq 19$. By using a dynamic programming algorithm, the values of $\gamma_{m,n}$ for $m,n \leq 29$ are here obtained. Minimum dominating sets for square grid graphs up to size $29 \times 29$ are depicted.
Field experiments were used to evaluate three different indirect fire models: the cookie cutter and the Carleton damage functions and a simplified physical model for fragmenting ammunition. Data from three field tests, in which a total of 66 mortar bombs (120 mm high explosive) were fired in flat terrain, is used for validation.
The results imply that no universal parameters, that would fit the results, can be found for the damage function models while the physical model predicted the field test results consistently without parameter fitting.
A dynamic programming method for enumerating hamiltonian cycles in arbitrary graphs is presented. The method is applied to grid graphs, king's graphs, triangular grids, and three-dimensional grid graphs, and results are obtained for larger cases than previously published. The approach can easily be modified to enumerate hamiltonian paths and other similar structures.
