The Kindergarten Teacher Education Reform took custody in 2013. In 2015 we conducted interviews in six higher educational institutions in Norway. In this article we present theories of metaphors and reforms, which can deepen our understanding of the experiences expressed through the participant use of metaphors and give us insight into how we understand, construct and are embedded in cultural layers of metaphorical language. Participants use metaphors to express themselves about a reform they find challenging. They express the loss of a discipline; earlier they understood pedagogy as a "tree trunk", now as a single "satellite". The article also addresses the politics of reforms. If kindergarten teacher education is given the task of being the innovators in the education system, more is required than a new regulation.Leaders can benefit from understanding the importance of cultural metaphors in changing teacher education. Keywords Kindergarten teacher education; reform; metaphors; concept of knowledge and education Introduksjon I denne artikkelen presenterer vi vår studie av kva bruk av metaforar kan fortelje om korleis barnehagelaerarutdanningsreforma vert forstått og møtt i praksis.
English abstract The Disappearance of the Teacher Educator? According to the trends of educational policy of the last decades, preschool teacher educators encounter altered demands regarding the purposes and design of the education. Consequently, the position of the profession of being a teacher in the system of education has also changed. We can read governing documents as an invitation to different roles in given areas, mobilizing for different kinds of professional practices and identities. This is an analysis of how the teacher educators are invited into the kindergarten teacher education in Norway (BLU) in a selection of governing documents through the years 1971–2018. The analysis is based on theoretical resources that explore the concept of a rhetorical audience. Findings imply a change of authority, from professional teacher authority and autonomy to institutional and management authority. These authorities in turn replace the teacher as a link between education, the learning process and the student.
