Conscientes de la repercusión e importancia de la soledad no deseada entre las personas con discapacidad visual, la Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles, además de poner en marcha un ambicioso programa para paliar esta entre sus afiliados denominado «A tu lado siempre», entre finales de 2021 y principios de 2022 llevó a cabo un estudio con el propósito de conocer la prevalencia de los sentimientos de soledad en las personas con ceguera o deficiencia visual grave. Este estudio recoge la experiencia en relación a la soledad no deseada de las personas afiliadas a través de sus propios testimonios, los de sus familiares y los de los profesionales que prestan sus servicios en el Grupo Social ONCE. Para ello, se diseñó una encuesta en la que se recogió la opinión de más de 1100 afiliados y se recogió el discurso de 41 personas de distintos perfiles a través de diferentes técnicas cualitativas. El presente artículo expone los principales resultados obtenidos en dicho estudio, prestando especial atención a las particularidades que la soledad no deseada presenta en el colectivo de personas con discapacidad visual, y analiza los principales factores señalados por la literatura científica que favorecen su aparición de cara a identificar aquellos que realmente ejercen una influencia directa sobre la población con discapacidad visual.
Las personas, con o sin discapacidad, son titulares y sujetos de derecho, pero el hecho de que se reconozcan como tales no lleva aparejado que sus derechos sean respetados de manera automática, por lo que es frecuente que, especialmente en el caso de las personas con discapacidad, estos se transgredan. Consciente de esta situación, la Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles llevó a cabo, durante el 2022, un estudio para conocer la percepción que las personas con ceguera total y deficiencia visual grave tenían sobre la vulneración de sus derechos, identificando ámbitos y situaciones donde las personas pueden haberse sentido discriminadas o en las que pudieran haber encontrado dificultades fruto de la falta de adaptación a su condición visual. Adicionalmente, se propuso con el estudio identificar estrategias de acción de cara a desarrollar actuaciones que incidan en un mayor respeto de los derechos de las personas con discapacidad visual. En dicho estudio se recogió la opinión de 1051 personas afiliadas a la institución y los principales resultados del mismo se recogen en este artículo.
Este artículo se basa en un estudio más amplio llevado a cabo durante el 2021 por la ONCE para conocer los intereses y necesidades de los jóvenes estudiantes afiliados a la institución. En dicho estudio se recoge la opinión y experiencia de los jóvenes con discapacidad visual en varios ámbitos (educación, ocio y tiempo libre, relaciones sociales, perspectivas de futuro, etc.), buscando identificar aquellos elementos comunes que permiten hablar de un colectivo diferenciado de otros (como los niños y adultos), pero, a su vez, reflejar aquellos factores y elementos que obligan a considerar a los jóvenes como un grupo internamente heterogéneo, compuesto por un conjunto de perfiles variados. Del estudio se plasma en este texto una visión general de lo que es ser joven con discapacidad visual en relación a distintos ámbitos en la vida de la persona, del mismo modo que se señalan algunos de los factores que pueden condicionar la vivencia de esta etapa vital.
