SUMMARY Objective:To describe by a review of the scientific literature the concept and instruments used in the evaluation of quality of life in health. Methods: This is a review article in which the articles were collected in the Lilacs, SciELO and PubMed databases from May to June 2017. The following descriptors were used: "Quality of life", "Surveys and questionnaires" and Evaluation of results (health care)". Results and Discussion: The term quality of life originates in Eastern and Western culture, characterized by the individual's perception of the position in life within the context of the culture and value system in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns. The instruments for evaluating the quality of life arose from the need to adapt the concepts of health and its measures, starting to address aspects such as functioning, social and psychological support, as well as morbidity and mortality. Conclusion: The creation of the term health-related quality of life limited the scope of the subject without, however, abandoning the multidimensionality, subjectivity and complexity inherent in quality of life. Regarding the questionnaires, it was possible to conclude that the WHOQOL-100 questionnaire, and its better-known WHOQOL-bref variation, and the SF-36 questionnaire were notably those of greater ease, better application, and greater use within the current scientific literature.
ABSTRACTObjective: This study sought to review the main geriatric syndromes with a focus on the perception and knowledge of community health agents (ACS). Methods: It is a narrative review article in which the data collection was carried out in the database VHL, SciELO, LILACS and PubMed, from May to August 2017, through the descriptors Geriatric Syndromes, Community Health Agent and Elderly. Results and Discussion: This article was attended by 34 articles that were discussed in the light of the thematic analysis of content, with the categories Population aging being configured; Geriatric Syndromes; Community Health Agents and their contribution to care for the elderly. It was evidenced that the most recurrent geriatric syndromes are cognitive incapacity, postural instability, immobility, urinary incontinence and communicative incapacity, in this context, it is possible to perceive the existence of failures in the knowledge of the ACS's on the geriatric syndromes. Final considerations: It is extremely important that community health agents reinforce their knowledge and gerontological perceptions so that the frequency and spontaneous association between being elderly and having geriatric syndrome is diminished, as well as proposing an improvement in the condition of life, independence and autonomy, with the aim of promoting a healthy and harmonious old age.
