El cambio climático genera afectaciones que amenazan la vida en el planeta como lo es el aumento del nivel del mar, situación que ha tomado un papel protagónico dentro de la preocupación mundial en los últimos años. Es por ello que organizaciones internacionales analizan estos impactos y generan planes para los tomadores de decisiones con miras a proteger la población. Panamá, al ser un país con costas en el océano Pacífico y mar Caribe, necesita la creación de mapas de inundación en zonas costeras, como la Isla Colón en la provincia de Bocas del Toro. Estos mapas son una herramienta para describir la magnitud y alcance del aumento del nivel del mar a una escala de tiempo en específico, encontrándose información valiosa en las proyecciones a los años 2050, 2080 y 2110. En este estudio se presentan mapas de inundación desarrollados con el programa Civil 3D, en el cual se utilizaron datos georreferenciados de Isla Colón suministrados por el Instituto Geográfico Nacional Tommy Guardia (IGNTG). Entre los resultados se detallan las zonas más afectadas y vulnerables ante el aumento del nivel del mar en la Isla en tres periodos. La percepción pública relacionada al aumento del nivel del mar se evaluó por medio de encuestas a 300 personas. De manera simultánea se buscó concientizar a la población acerca del cambio climático y la vulnerabilidad de zonas costeras ante el aumento del nivel del mar.
