Los pueblos desarrollan conocimientos relacionados con su forma de ser, conocer e insertarse en el mundo del cual forman parte y de las necesidades que surgen de la forma de vida que se ha dado. Igual ocurre actualmente con diversos grupos socioculturales que coexisten en nuestras sociedades. Los estudios de esos conocimientos producidos en entornos sociales y naturales particulares hacen parte del interés de la Etnomatemática, asumiendo que puede haber tantas formas de conocer como formas de situarse en el mundo.Muchas corrientes de la educación intercultural están en constante tensión, porque abordan relaciones pasadas y presentes entre diferentes grupos que aún están muy presentes en los imaginarios sociales de las sociedades latinoamericanas, como los movimientos afrodescendientes que interpretan su historia a través de una lectura alternativa de los procesos históricos sobre los orígenes africanos, la participación de los pueblos existentes en las guerras y la formación de los estados nacionales. La enseñanza de contenidos matemáticos ha sido tradicionalmente el resultado de un conjunto de tareas dispuestas en orden cronológico lineal, sin relación con la vida cotidiana de los alumnos. Lo anterior es un punto de partida para ampliar las posibilidades de discusión que debe utilizar la comunidad científica para considerar la perspectiva de las etnomatemáticas, respetando la diversidad social de los miembros de los diferentes grupos culturales y garantizando la comprensión de las distintas formas de desarrollo de las matemáticas basadas en el diálogo y el respeto mutuo. La simple identificación de pueblos originarios practicantes de las matemáticas en diversos archivos académicos o publicaciones, tanto nacionales como internacionales, no cambia la perspectiva eurocéntrica desde la que se abordaban las matemáticas. Para comprender el desarrollo de las etnomatemáticas como programa, es necesario considerar sus perspectivas actuales y futuras y analizar sus metas, objetivos y supuestos sobre la promoción de la ética, el respeto, la solidaridad y la cooperación intercultural. Sin embargo, también es importante considerar los diferentes conceptos presentados en matemáticas, entendiendo las matemáticas como una forma de pensar que se desarrolló en Grecia hace aproximadamente 2500 años. De manera similar, otros sistemas culturales también buscaron desarrollar sus propias artes, técnicas o métodos de explicación y comprensión que afectaron a diversos entornos: natural, social, económico, político, profético y misticismo orientado a objetivos. de supervivencia y trascendencia. En particular, muchas de estas técnicas dependen de procesos como contar, medir, clasificar, organizar, inferir y modelar que preservan el conocimiento ancestral. Los currículos deben reflejar el aprendizaje interno, social y cultural de los estudiantes, y se debe apoyar a los maestros para prepararlos para lidiar con tales diferencias a fin de promover un cambio significativo en la educación matemática; donde su objetivo principal es promover la igualdad entre los estudiantes dándoles la oportunidad de explorar las matemáticas desde diferentes perspectivas. Por otro lado, se deben incrementar los esfuerzos relacionados con la investigación étnica y su papel en la educación para promover un currículo basado en el respeto, la tolerancia y la igualdad. También se debe alentar a cambiar la comprensión actual de la relación entre la cultura y las matemáticas para enfatizar el trabajo etnomatemático. Desde la anterior perspectiva, se promueve una mejor comprensión de los aspectos matemáticos de la cultura y se fomenta la actividad pedagógica, mostrando cómo las ideas, procedimientos y prácticas matemáticas juegan un papel central en el desarrollo de la humanidad. Falta más investigaciones que profundicen en la comprensión de las etnomatemáticas, y en este sentido se necesita algún tipo de clasificación de investigación para beneficiarse de los aportes de proyectos realizados en diversas partes del mundo para satisfacer la conceptualización de las etnomatemáticas y que contribuyan al aún limitado conocimiento de estos conceptos.La presente obra tiene como objeto de estudio el análisis etnomatemático de los saberes de ciertas culturas originarias y su aplicación en la formación didáctica-matemática de profesores. Se contextualiza en el ámbito universitario con la preocupación fundamental de visibilizar el conocimiento matemático propio de algunas culturas y concienciar sobre su existencia y contenido a los profesores y profesionales universitarios. Uno de los problemas investigados es el reconocimiento de las necesidades que existe en la formación relacionada con matemáticas de los profesores que desarrollarán su docencia en zonas geográficas de población mayoritariamente indígena.
Tal vez, en algunas oportunidades escuchamos la frase: ¡Para enseñar, basta con saber matemáticas!" y en contraposición aquella que dice: ¡No basta solo saber matemáticas para enseñar! Por tanto, no es fácil responder a la pregunta ¿Qué debe saber un docente para que los alumnos puedan aprender Matemáticas? Hoy en día, existen dos acuerdos claros en la comunidad educativa: saber Matemáticas en un campo amplio es una condición necesaria, y saber Matemáticas por sí solo no es suficiente. Al considerar todas las visiones, sobre las tareas y roles que deberían tener los profesores de matemáticas ahora y en el futuro, podríamos asegurar que poseen una infinidad de tareas y responsabilidades. Un nuevo comportamiento profesional, una nueva actitud hacia los estudiantes requiere el profesor de matemáticas; conocimientos y habilidades pedagógicas flexibles de acuerdo con diferentes situaciones y contextos educativos; conocimiento de la materia en sí y de la información didáctica relacionada. Del mismo modo, se requiere que sea posible promover y estimular el trabajo de los estudiantes, para orientarlos a la reflexión, manejando los aspectos sociales y emocionales; ser capaz de crear entornos de aprendizaje matemáticamente diversos y enriquecedores; diseñar modelos que se adapten a las condiciones de aprendizaje inciertas y cambiantes en las clases de matemáticas y preparar a sus estudiantes para la integración y participación laboral o para continuar con la educación superior.En este análisis y comprensión exhaustiva de los procesos de aprendizaje o enseñanza de las matemáticas, también la filosofía de las matemáticas y la historia de las matemáticas tienen un lugar claro y natural. Esperamos que el texto sea una herramienta útil para estudiantes de matemáticas, maestros e instructores, además que las aportaciones le presenten al lector elementos útiles para su labor profesional y académica, acorde con los cambios educativos que naturalmente se dan en nuestra sociedad.
