Introducción: Las enfermedades bucales son un problema de salud pública a nivel individual y comunitaria, está relacionada a la calidad de vida de los individuos, se define como una percepción de los aspectos, funcionales, psicológicos y sociales, junto con el dolor y la comodidad. Objetivo: Identificar factores asociados al miedo y ansiedad dental en el binomio padres e hijos en una población que asiste a consulta dental en San Luis Potosí, México. Materiales y métodos: Este consistió de 398 niños (muestra por conveniencia) con edades de 5 a 12 años, ambos sexos, todos pacientes de la clínica del Departamento de Pediatría de la Facultad de Estomatología de la U.A.S.L.P. que fueron tratados en de Diciembre de 2015 a Noviembre del 2016. Los padres encuestados (n=398) con edades entre los 18 a 60 años y de ambos sexos, acompañantes de sus hijos que asistieron a la Clínica. Resultados: Se encontro una correlación significativa positiva. Coeficiente = 0.336 y p<0.001 con lo cual, se demuestra que la percepción de la intensidad del dolor fué la misma Los resultados de la prueba de McNemar mostraron una p=1.00 es decir, la opinion sobre la escala del dolor antes fue igual posterior del tratamiento. Conclusiones: Existe una relación entre la ansiedad y el miedo dental con algunos factores como es el nivel socioeconomico.
