The effectiveness of an elective course on spirituality in altering student attitudes was evaluated. A demographic data questionnaire about religious practices and a standardized Religious Belief Questionnaire were completed by 176 junior baccalaureate nursing students. Those students enrolled in a spirituality elective increased their mean scores on four of the seven subscales of the second questionnaire. When compared to students in the other nursing electives, students who had completed the spirituality course also scored higher on four subscales. There were no significant differences in perceptions of religiosity between student groups.
