Korneyev (1985) reviewed the genus and recognized several species groups based on similarity of structure of the male terminalia, predominantly regarding the glans of the phallus. Korneyev (1987) proposed the genus Cerajocera as a subgenus Cerajocera of the genus Terellia and described T. (C.) clarissima Korneyev, 1987 as a new species. According to Norrbom et al. (1999), subgenus Cerajocera includes 14 species. Korneyev (2003) described T. (C.) cyanoides Korneyev, 2003 and proposed a key for the subgenus Cerajocera for a species of Palearctic region. Kütük (2009) described T. (C.) yukseli Kütük, 2009 and finally Kütük et al. (2011) described T. (C.) askaleensis Kütük et al., 2011 as a new species from Turkey. Thus, the subgenus Cerajocera includes 17 known species as of today. According to Koçak and Kemal (2013), 8 species of the subgenus Cerajocera are scattered throughout Turkey.
The fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) fauna of Çorum and Sinop Provinces in Turkey were determined. Specimens were collected between 2015 and 2018 from possible host plants. The specimens were examined and diagnosed under stereo microscope after preparation of the collected materials in laboratory. Sixty-six species and 24 genera belonging to five subfamilies were determined for the fruit fly fauna of Çorum and Sinop Provinces. The genus Acidia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 as well as the species Acidia cognata (Wiedemann, 1817) and Carpomya wiedemanni (Meigen, 1826) are reported for the first time for the fruit fly fauna of Turkey. In addition to wing photographs and information on species determined from the research region, host plants, world distribution, body and female genitalia photographs of new records are also presented.
Tephritis Latreille 1804 is one of the largest genera of Tephritini (Diptera: Tephritidae). In this study, undescribed specimens of Tephritis were collected from Bayburt province of Turkey and described as Tephritis kutuki sp. nov. The paper presents a diagnosis, description and also morphological characteristic figures of the new species. The holotype and paratypes are pinned and deposited in the collection of the Entomology Laboratory, Department of Biology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Gaziantep University, Gaziantep, Turkey (GUGT).
Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) is one of the most important Diptera families, some species damage fruits, and cause millions of dollars in every years. In this study, adult fruit fly materials were collected from Gaziantep province between 2010 and 2021 from possible host plants using insect net. Obtained materials were examined, and were determined that 15 species. All species recorded for the first time from Gaziantep province. In addition, Goniurellia tridens (Hendel, 1910) recorded as a new record from Turkey. With these contributions, Gaziantep fruit fly fauna increased to 44 species. In the article, examined materials, current list of Gaziantep fruit fly fauna and adult and wing figures of Goniurellia tridens (Hendel, 1910) were given.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
