dassare Castiglione, Nilson Moulin descobriu o gosto pela leitura e a primeira língua estrangeira (o francês), ainda na infância. Mais tarde pensou em ser diplomata -"para poder viajar, conhecer outras culturas, outras línguas" -, entrou para a Faculdade de Direito, mas acabou abandonando o curso no terceiro ano: "Não ia aturar aquela gente, os filhos da burguesia, da classe média alta do Rio de Janeiro, como colega de trabalho". Viveu exilado no Chile, na Itália e em Moçambique, durante a ditadura no Brasil. Nesse período, aprofundou a experiência com línguas neolatinas como o espanhol, o francês e o italiano; atuou como professor e foi consultor da UNESCO em Moçambique e na França. Em meados dos anos 1980, retornou ao país e entrou na Pontifícia Universidade Católica (PUC) de São Paulo, onde se formou jornalista. De lá para cá, escreveu nove livros, quatro deles em parceria com o artista plástico Rubens Matuck; envolveu-se com projetos na área de educação; foi vice-presidente do Sindicato Nacional de Tradutores (SINTRA); traduziu para o português mais de 30 livros; e recebeu os prêmios Nazionale per la Traduzione, do Ministério da Cultura da Itália (1994); Internazionale Lumière (1998), por trabalhos de docência e pesquisa nas áreas de meio ambiente e cultura; Tradução Jovem (2003), da Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil (FNLIJ) e o Altamente Recomendável, pela Biblioteca Nacional, por traduções e livros que escreveu. Hoje, aos 69 anos, ele vive em Brasília e sonha com o dia em que irá mudar-se para um pedacinho de terra na Serra do Caparaó: "Depois de tanta desilusão, tanta decepção,
