En la etapa de estudio, el diseño de pavimentos flexibles exige un adecuado conocimiento de la relación entre las cargas por eje y los agentes que determinan la vida útil de estas estructuras. Un factor importante para determinar esa relación es el denominado factor de equivalencia de daño/carga (LEF – Load Equivalency Factor), que se utiliza para cuantificar los efectos del daño de diferentes configuraciones de ejes y cargas en términos de un número equivalente de ejes estándares. La red Argentina de carreteras y el transporte asociado a esta poseen características propias que los diferencian de otros países por lo cual contar con modelos locales de factores de equivalencia de daño es indispensable para un adecuado dimensionamiento del pavimento. Se realizó un estudio y análisis de las condiciones nacionales de tráfico, cargas, presiones neumáticos, paquetes estructurales, módulos, espesores, subrasantes y clima de Argentina. Luego se analizaron los distintos modelos LEF que ya han sido estudiados en diferentes países del mundo, para proponer un modelo para las condiciones locales. Se simuló mediante un software elástico multicapa el paso de diferentes tipos de ejes (simple, tándem y trídem) sobre diferentes tipos de pavimentos de características locales (Argentina). De la simulación se obtuvo la respuesta del pavimento con lo cual se calcularon y analizaron los factores de equivalencia de daño para cada uno de las tipologías de ejes características.
