-Inocutis tamaricis is a lignicolous basidiomycete associated exclusively with Tamarix species. The fi rst Romanian record of this species is reported from Constanţa city near the Black Sea coast where it was detected on Tamarix tetrandra. We noticed that in pure culture it forms swollen hyphae in the aerial mycelium, which have not been reported so far for I. tamaricis.
Erysiphe kenjiana is an Asian fungus causing powdery mildew of Ulmus spp. In 2017, 10 years after its introduction in Europe, it was detected in Romania on Ulmus pumila, the Siberian elm, which is cultivated in urban environments as an ornamental and shade tree. The identification of the fungus was based on morphological characteristics and molecular data (rDNA internal transcribed spacer region). This is the first report of E. kenjiana in Romania, and only the third from a European country.
Erysiphe corylacearum, a species of powdery mildew that parasitizes on Corylus spp., has been detected for the first time in Romania. Shortly after the first European record of this pathogen from Ukraine, it was found in many locations throughout the Romanian Carpathians. Disease symptoms on Corylus avellana, morphological characteristics and molecular data (rDNA internal transcribed spacer region) of this pathogen are provided.
Erysiphe elevata is a North American fungus that causes the powdery mildew of Catalpa species. The present study brings new data on the spread of this species in Romania, and given its invasiveness in Europe, the study evaluates the incidence and intensity of the powdery mildew caused to Catalpa bignonioides (Southern catalpa). In 2017, 12 North-Estern Romanian cities where C. bignonioides had been planted in green spaces were investigated. The results have shown that the pathogen is widespread in the North-Estern part of Romania, accompanying the host plant in all of the localities investigated. In addition, the high frequency of the disease, confirms the invasiveness of E. elevata, most affected being the trees that were planted along streets and in public squares. A specimen of E. elevata was sequenced and the BLAST results revealed that it is identical to samples from France and Korea.
