Se realizó un inventario faunístico en el Cerro El Diente,Tamaulipas, para contribuir al conocimiento de la fauna de Chrysomelidae en México. El estudio se llevó a cabo entre marzo y septiembre de 2012; la colecta de los ejemplares se realizó en transectos altitudinales utilizando el método directo. En total se analizaron seis tipos de vegetación, en altitudes de 380 a 1200 msnm. Se obtuvieron 290 individuos, pertenecientes a 74 especies de 50 géneros y seis subfamilias. Este es uno de los primeros estudios de Chrysomelidae realizados en el noreste de México, documentándose ocho nuevos registros para Tamaulipas(Babia costalisdebaja, Diplacaspis prosternalis, Chrysogramma septempunctata, Disonycha teapensis, Margaridisa atriventris, Metrioidea varicornis, Miraces aeneipennis y Acalymma flavovittatum) y uno para México (Malacorhinus acaciae).
Las colisiones de las aves con diversas construcciones humanas (e.g., ventanales de cristal) son el segundo factor de mortalidad más importante en paisajes urbanos después de la depredación por gatos. Se ha estimado que alrededor de 988 millones de aves mueren anualmente solamente en los Estados Unidos y Canadá por estos factores. Entre agosto de 2015 y septiembre de 2016 evaluamos la frecuencia de colisiones aves-ventanas en el Centro Universitario Victoria de la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas en el noreste de México. Para detectar aves muertas por colisiones realizamos recorridos en busca de cadáveres dentro de una franja perimetral (tres metros de ancho) alrededor de cuatro edificios durante dos sesiones diarias de muestreo (09:00-10:00 h y 16:00- 17:00 h). Identificamos 21 aves en el suelo de 16 especies, de éstas el 50% de las especies fueron residentes y del total de colisiones 16 fueron fatales. Las especies con mayor incidencia fueron la paloma ala blanca (Zenaida asiatica) con cuatro individuos y el colibrí pico ancho (Cynanthus latirostris) con tres. Durante el muestreo también detectamos cinco especies de aves residentes con conducta agonística contra su reflejo en las ventanas con vidrio reflejante de los edificios del campus universitario. Proponemos algunas medidas para mitigar el número de colisiones de aves en el CUV (e.g., colocación de bandas de colores en las ventanas). Las especies que colisionaron representaron el 5.2% de las especies descritas para el municipio de Victoria. Determinamos mayor frecuencia de colisión en los edificios con vidrios reflejantes. Es necesario seguir desarrollando más estudios de colisiones de aves usando metodologías sistemáticas, que incluyan puntos de conteo simultáneos para considerar la prevalencia de las especies en el sitio de estudio con el fin de documentar el impacto de la urbanización en las poblaciones y comunidades de aves en diferentes centros y paisajes urbanos de México. La determinación de los factores que más influyen en las tasas de colisión de aves-ventanas ayudará en el desarrollo de acciones efectivas de manejo para reducir las colisiones en diferentes escalas espaciales y temporales.
Llevamos a cabo un estudio sobre la avifauna en el Centro Universitario en Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, México. De octubrede 2012 a septiembre de 2013 realizamos observaciones para generar la lista ornitológica. En la identificación de las especiesutilizamos el método visual directo con binoculares. Registramos 114 especies pertenecientes a 30 familias de las cuales la demayor riqueza fue la familia Tyrannidae seguida de Cardinalidae y Parulidae. Todas las especies las observamos en las áreas verdesdel Centro Universitario. Discutimos las similitudes, así como la riqueza entre estudios elaborados en campus universitarios deMéxico. El número de especies que registramos en este estudio fue mayor a cualquier otro listado generado en los campus universitariosdel país.
En México, los matorrales ocupan el 29.7 % (576,747 km²) de la superficie del país. Estas áreas fungen como refugio de la avifauna. A pesar de su importancia, se desconoce la abundancia y composición avifaunística que pueden llegar a albergar, en específico, el matorral submontano. Los objetivos de este trabajo son: 1) describir la composición avifaunística del matorral submontano de la parte noroeste de Tamaulipas, México, en términos de riqueza, abundancia y diversidad, 2) analizar los gremios tróficos que se presentan en el matorral en función de la variación estacional y 3) conocer los estatus de conservación y endemismos de las especies de aves. Para ello, se realizaron 12 visitas mensuales de febrero de 2019 a enero de 2020, en las que se identificaron 1,858 individuos pertenecientes a 12 órdenes, 26 familias y 93 especies. Las familias de mayor riqueza fueron Cardinalidae y Parulidae. La estación del año más diversa fue la primavera (H’= 3.68). Se identificaron dos especies en peligro de extinción a nivel global y dos endemismos para México. Además, se reportan tres especies no registradas previamente en la región. El presente trabajo, es el primero que reporta la composición y riqueza de aves para la parte noroeste de Tamaulipas, México. Resalta la importancia del matorral submontano como refugio para las aves migratorias y residentes, y se contribuye al conocimiento de la diversidad regional.
