O ruído é um dos agentes nocivos mais comuns encontrados no ambiente, em que a exposição contínua e prolongada pode gerar efeitos auditivos e extra-auditivos. Para minimizar estes efeitos no indivíduo, faz-se necessário o desenvolvimento de projetos acústicos, com o objetivo de diminuir as fontes geradoras de ruídos. Apesar de a acústica ser uma área bem difundida, de fato, poucas medidas ainda são implantadas. O objetivo foi investigar se a acústica é considerada na elaboração de projetos por Engenheiros e Arquitetos, tendo em vista a importância da atenuação do ruído para conforto, prevenção das perdas auditivas e minimização de custos nas medidas coletivas de controle do ruído. O estudo foi realizado por meio da aplicação de um questionário que foi elaborado exclusivamente para essa pesquisa. Responderam ao questionário docentes Engenheiros e Arquitetos de um centro universitário de Belo Horizonte. Durante a análise das respostas foi observado que 60% dos sujeitos consideraram a acústica e o conforto acústico na elaboração dos seus projetos; 40% consideraram a atenuação do ruído para prevenção de perdas auditivas, bem como os coeficientes de atenuação do ruído dos materiais escolhidos; e 30% referiram elaborar seus projetos considerando a acústica sob uma perspectiva de diminuição de custos nas medidas coletivas de controle do ruído. Tais números instigam reflexões sobre como o conteúdo da acústica pode ser mais explorado em outras áreas que dialogam com a Fonoaudiologia, na perspectiva da diminuição de custos de controle coletivo, no incentivo a programas de promoção da saúde auditiva e na inclusão do conteúdo no ensino dos profissionais da área.
