Transgênicos e “Organismos Geneticamente Modificados” (OGM) são organismos que receberam por meios de técnicas artificiais em laboratório, genes de outro organismo doador. A necessidade de respostas e esclarecimento de informações sobre o assunto trouxe a objeção de discorrer definições, analisar legislação de rotulagem e comércio e os impactos causados pela produção deste tipo de alimento, principalmente no Brasil, um dos maiores produtores de transgênicos no mundo. O estudo, realizado a partir de fontes secundárias, frisa pontos positivos e negativos da geração e utilização dos transgênicos no cotidiano, considerando a conexão que os mesmos possuem com o uso de agrotóxicos que afetam a saúde e o meio ambiente. Conclui que ambos os lados, tanto os que rejeitam, quanto os que defendem a realidade trazida pela biotecnologia, têm seu argumento válido na ‘batalha’ que envolve o polêmico assunto, assim sendo de maior carência a transparência e divulgação de informações sobre estes alimentos.
