“Taken for-granted divisions of geographic space (such as centre and periphery) must be viewed according to Bourdieu, as the effect of distance in social space, i.e. the unequal distribution of the different kinds of capital in geographical space” – as Reed-Danahay, D. (2020, 17) puts it in their book about the spatial aspect of Pierre Bourdieu’s action theory. Field, social space, capital, disposition, and habitus are all essential components of Bourdieu’s theory, but what about places? This paper focuses on the importance of geographical space, place and scales in a habitus analysis and tries to show the possibilities the concept of habitus can offer in spatial studies. While research on the relationship between Bourdieu’s concept of habitus and spatiality is becoming increasingly popular (Berger, V. 2018; Németh, K. 2020; Reed-Danahay, D. 2020), still few scholars (e.g. Máté, É. et al. 2022) undertake place-based habitus analyses. The present paper aims to provide an overview of the international academic discourse on place-based (in this case mainly rural) habitus analysis. Considering a dozen empirical studies from different perspectives and in different geographical areas, I focus on the specificities of habitus analysis in rural places. After briefly introducing the concept of habitus and its critiques, I will describe the characteristics of habitus studies in rural places by presenting various views. Then, I will show how the relationship between rural and urban habitus studies suggests that habitus does indeed contribute to the persistence of urban-rural structures.
A turisztikai fejlesztési területek területi lehatárolása meghatározó jelentőségű a desztinációk fejlesztésével foglalkozó szakemberek számára. Ennek direkt okai a következők: a megszerezhető fejlesztési források, a turisztikai szupra- és infrastruktúra bővítése, a desztinációs arculat kialakítása, emellett az előbbiek által jelentkező előnyök lehetnek: a kapcsolódó szolgáltatási lehetőségek bevonása, a közös kommunikáció. A turisztikai piac kínálati oldala a kellő tájékozottságban érdekelt, noha kérdéses, hogy mennyire követi a kereslet a változó desztináció lehatárolást, illetve mennyiben kelt bizonytalanságot a turista utazási döntésében az, hogy egy-egy szűkebb terület időközönként más-más turisztikai fejlesztési területi egységhez tartozik és így eltérő kommunikációt folytat. A témát elemző kutatás eme résztanulmánya a fogalmak tisztázása mellett egy próbamérést mutat be a jelenleg hatályos turisztikai fejlesztési egységek ismertségére vonatkozóan, amely előkészíti a nagy elemszámú mintán alapuló lekérdezést. A tapasztalatok azonban nemcsak a mérési korrekciókra vonatkozóan szolgálnak tanulságul.
The word 'mobility' can be applied to a wide range of spatial movements, and giving a universal de nition is hardly possible. One can think of mobility of students, mobility of labour, mobility as a result of a free choice of the individual, or mobility as a result of a situation of distress, forcing us to leave our familiar physical (or social) space. Mobility is not necessarily only about people, one can also talk about the mobility of capital or goods, but it is certainly about the fact of changing spatial position. As with mobility, the concept of habitus, which is primarily associated with Bourdieu (1977), can be interpreted from a number of perspectives. The de nition of habitus and the relevant sub-concepts of the Theory of Practice could be considered even more uncertain than mobility. From Reed-Danahay's point of view, the interpretations that attempt to de ne habitus downplay signi cant elements of the concept, for example, the relationship of habitus to space. Deborah Reed-Danahay's work, published in 2020, seeks to reveal the relationship between mobility and space, focusing primarily on social space. Spatiality is not limited by the author to the social space closely linked to the concept of habitus; the physical space is also a key aspect of her work. The author is a professor of sociocultural anthropology, her research focuses on migration, mobility, and the work of Pierre Bourdieu, which has inspired the choice of the book's subject. Reed-Danahay aims, as stated in the Preface, to highlight the importance of social space in Bourdieu's practice theory. Bourdieu's concept opens the door to many di erent interpretations, and the author's work is one of them. The book introduces valuable perspectives into the analysis of Bourdieu's oeuvre. Although Reed-Danahay aims to emphasize the role of social space, other important elements of Bourdieu's theory, such as
