Serum and red blood cell magnesium (RBC-Mg) concentrations of 195 type I and 111 type II diabetic outpatients with different degree of control and 40 control subjects have been evaluated using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. In the total group, no significant difference in serum and RBC-Mg levels in type I and II diabetic outpatients could be found. However, poor control was often associated with lower serum magnesium levels. A negative correlation was found between serum magnesium levels and HbA1. A particular group of male patients with severe macroangiopathy showed high RBC-Mg levels; this finding was probably due to atherosclerotic and hypertensive renal involvement.
In the Gospel of Matthew 10 quotations from the Old Testament are introduced by a formula containing the verb πληροῦν. This article explores the rendering of 9 of these 10 quotations in 3 Syriac versions of the New Testament, namely the Peshitta and the 2 versions of the Old Syriac Gospels (Sinaiticus and Curetonianus). The question addressed is the relationship of the Syriac versions to one another, to the Peshitta of the Old Testament and to the Greek Gospel. For the quotations in Matthew, their relationship to the Hebrew and Greek Old Testament is very important. In the quotations discussed, the Greek New Testament did not make much use of the Septuagint as it is known today. The Old Testament Peshitta influenced the Old Syriac, but not to the same extent in all instances. This influence could have been through Tatian’s Diatessaron. Tatian probably used the text of the Old Testament Peshitta for the quotations of the Old Testament in the gospels. In instances where the Curetonianus and the Sinaiticus differ, it could demonstrate attempts to bring the text closer to the Greek New Testament. The New Testament Peshitta normally started with a text close to the Old Syriac, but frequently adapted it to bring it closer to New Testament Greek.
The hymn and communication through word and melody. The interaction between the melody and the words of a hymn is not regularly taken into account in evaluating the function of congregational singing. This interaction is, however, very important for the communication effected by a hymn during a service. This article discusses Scriptural data important for this topic, some perspectives from church history and theoretical aspects of communication through hymns. Data from an empirical investigation directed at the Reformed Churches in South Africa (RCSA) sheds light on this topic. Ministers of religion have a special responsibility to enhance the possibilities of communication through hymns by their selection of hymns, the broadening of the repertoire of a congregation, meaningful cooperation with the organist and explaining the choice of hymns
Die datums in die Ezekiel 33 as pivotal point in the book of Ezekiel. Many scholars regarded Ezekiel as the introduction to the last major part of the book (Ezk 33-48), with references to the first part of the book (Ezk 1-24). Ezekiel 33:1-20 made use, in diverse ways, of previous sections in the book, especially the sections dealing with the call of the prophet in Ezekiel 1-2, as well as Ezekiel 18, with its emphasis on the personal responsibility of the people of God. The proposal of...
Daar was eers genadetyd, en die genade was juis moontlik weens God se lankmoedigheid.
