Durante la segunda república española, los contactos de las logias españolas del Norte de África y algunos talleres de América Latina fueron constantes. El intercambio epistolar adquirió cifras destacables con logias pertenecientes a la Gran Logia Oriental Peninsular de Yucatán, la Gran Logia “Unida Mexicana” de Veracruz o La Gran Logia de la Isla de Cuba. Dentro del marco geográfico del protectorado español de Marruecos y plazas de soberanía, destacan talleres como Perseverancia no. 70 de Larache o Hércules no. 55 de Ceuta, ambos auspiciados por la Gran Logia Española, así como algunos contactos con la Gran Logia Regional de Marruecos, perteneciente al Gran Oriente Español. Este trabajo nos aproxima a la relevancia y particularidad de estos vínculos, al establecimiento de una red internacional (transoceánica y transcontinental) de solidaridades y colaboración masónica, cuya intensidad superaba las relaciones de talleres europeos, en particular a la de la Península Ibérica.
La documentación requisada a las logias masónicas norteafricanas por el franquismo justificaría el complot judeo-masónico que motivó la represión de los componentes de la orden. No obstante, la realidad hispano-judía en esta masonería, así como sus objetivos y proyectos, divergían sustancialmente de tal incriminación. En este estudio revisaremos la presencia judía en las logias españolas de Marruecos para dirimir si fue determinante en la construcción del discurso masónico español imperante hasta la II República y, si, además, estuvo condicionada por la (re) construcción de las identidades de españoles y judíos en un contexto marcado por las teorías evolucionistas, racialistas, el filosefardismo, el antisemitismo y el sionismo. Para ello, a través de la documentación de las logias magrebíes cuantificaremos y calificaremos el «encuentro cultural» hispano-judío con el objeto de detectar las particularidades, posibles fricciones y aquiescencias de su interacción que, consideramos, van más allá del filosemitismo masónico, del discurso de las logias y del catastrofista mito del complot.
En este artículo se compara el papel de la masonería española en Cuba y Marruecos a partir de su situación colonial, haciendo hincapié en las variables que subyacen detrás de cada una: cómo legitima o justifica la masonería su actuación en las colonias, si se establece o no como un elemento más de colonización, pero, sobre todo, si termina por configurar un modelo colonial ideal que derivaría en el discurso proyectado en el protectorado español de Marruecos. Con tal fin, la sociología del imaginario nos aportará las bases metodológicas para analizar el discurso masónico y los preceptos que lo configuran, utilizando, como base documental, las fuentes producidas por las instancias masónicas, boletines y periódicos, así como la bibliografía especializada en esta temática.
