This study demonstrates the utility of periostin in phenotyping severe asthma. Periostin levels in sputum are associated with persistent airflow limitation in asthma patients with airway eosinophilia despite treatment with high-dose inhaled corticosteroids.
Patients with confirmed asthma showed higher FeNO levels. A cut-off value of 40 ppb was calculated as the most efficient for asthma diagnosis in our population. The use of FeNO measurement may be a helpful tool to rule out a diagnosis of asthma, especially in patients in whom a methacholine challenge is not feasible or available.
FeNO measurements can be used as a surrogate of airway inflammation accompanying the asthmatic reaction induced by BAC. FeNO measurements may be a useful and reliable tool in the monitoring and interpreting specific bronchial challenge test with allergens.
We present an early experience with patients with severe asthma treated with different biologics and affected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.AZT, Azithromycin; kU: kilounit; PRN, as needed. *5 mg prednisone/24 h.
