The dialysis procedure for kidney patients is of vital importance and consists of diverting blood from the body to a machine that will do the work of the kidneys, filtering the blood and eliminating toxins. The properly filtered blood returns to the patient's body, a process called hemodialysis. In the hemodialysis filtration process, water is used to dilute a solution, which will have contact with the blood through a semi-permeable membrane, through the diffusion process. The water used in hemodialysis must undergo rigorous treatment to eliminate unwanted substances. Consolidation Ordinance 5/2017 and RDC No. 11/2014 establishes the maximum limits allowed for physicochemical and microbiological contaminants in drinking water and water for hemodialysis, as well as operational procedures to prevent contamination. The control of the proper functioning of water treatment systems for hemodialysis and the quality of this water is carried out through a daily checklist, as well as monthly and semi-annual procedures. Thus, a list of parameters with priorities of responsibility for the occurrence of certain problems is needed so that the solution of these impasses occurs in a timely manner, favoring the care of hemodialysis patients with maximum brevity and safety. In this work, the Multivariate Statistics methodology known as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used to identify and classify relevant parameters in order of priority. For the PCA application, experimental data related to 30 days of operation of a treatment system associated with a hospital unit were used. Eleven factors were selected and from these historical data eight were selected after adequate preparation of the information matrix. In order of priority regarding the electrical conductivity of the water in the treatment system, eight relevant parameters were chosen. In solving problems with the treatment system, ACP indicated priority to address, chronologically, the variables: pre-coal filter pressure, post-coal filter pressure, feed pump pressure, post-coal conductivity, Pre-filter hardness softener , pre sand filter pH, pre-coal free residual chlorine and feed water temperature

HMG-CoA reductase (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase) is the enzyme that plays a limiting role in cholesterol biosynthesis. Among the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor molecules, statins stand out, a class of drug used in the treatment of atherosclerosis and in the reduction of high cholesterol levels, therefore they are biomolecules of medical and pharmaceutical importance. In this context, this work aimed to carry out a systematic mapping of patents and scientific articles related to the biosynthesis of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. The search was carried out in the databases of the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI), the European Patent Office (Espacenet), the Derwent Innovations Index, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and also articles indexed in Scielo and Pubmed using as descriptors “statins”, “production and statins and fungi”, “statins and fungus”. Of the 2561 cataloged patents, 09 were included because they met the inclusion criteria. The number of scientific articles found in the databases was higher (2820) when compared to the number of patents. As a country, China represents the largest holder on the subject, corresponding to 88.9% of patented products. Based on the mapping, advances in the search for strategies for the biotechnological production of statins can be highlighted. Some of the inventions used microorganisms such as filamentous fungi associated with agro-industrial substrates as an alternative and low-cost source for the production of statins to replace synthetic sources. However, future studies can be carried out using new fungi and new renewable substrates, considering the existing biodiversity worldwide.

The bioprospecting of secondary metabolites with antimicrobial action produced by filamentous fungi isolated from various ecosystems using agro-industrial residues is of considerable importance, since it reconciles the discovery of new antimicrobial agents with the reduction of environmental impacts adding economic value to wastes. The present paper investigated the potential of filamentous fungi for antimicrobial metabolites production using alternative media based on corn steep liquor, cassava wastewater and glycerol as substrates in different combinations. From 15 filamentous fungi assayed in preliminary screening, Paecilomyces variotii UCP 0334, Aspergillus flavus UCP 0316, Aspergillus foetidus UCP 0360, Aspergillus niger UCP 1064 e Aspergillus sp. 74M4 showed higher activity against all tested bacteria. After submerged fermentation in media containing corn steep liquor, cassava wastewater and glycerol, P. variotii UCP 0334 exhibitted greater activity and spectrum of action with inhibition halos ranging from 7 to 28 mm in diameter against all Gram negative and positive bacteria tested regardless of the culture medium type. It is worth mentioning that all fungi in alternative medium containing cassava wastewater and glycerol (CWWG) showed inhibitory activity against 3 bacteria with inhibition halos ranging from 9 to 15 mm. On the other hand, the medium containing corn steep liquor and glycerol (CSLG) favored higher biomass yield for all fungi. These results stimulate further studies of identification and characterization of the secondary metabolites produced by the selected fungi with a view to discovering new antimicrobial drugs.
