Ainda que haja um consenso sobre os benefícios de uma boa alimentação na saúde, tal conhecimento não é suficiente para escolha de alimentos saudáveis. A obesidade, hipertensão e diabetes, são problemas crescentes em nossa sociedade e associados ao consumo excessivo de alimentos ultraprocessados. Estes se caracterizam por serem formulações industriais muito palatáveis, ricos em açúcares, gorduras e com elevados índices de sódio o qual está diretamente relacionado a problemas de hipertensão arterial. Este trabalho teve como objetivo estimular o senso crítico dos alunos a respeito do teor de sódio existente nos alimentos através da investigação, sensibilizando para um consumo consciente. O estudo constou de três etapas: 1) análise dos rótulos dos alimentos consumidos para avaliar a quantidade de sódio; 2) elaboração de uma pesquisa para investigar a percepção do consumo de sódio pelas pessoas do círculo de convivência de cada estudante; 3) debate dos resultados observados e criação de um infográfico educacional. Observando os rótulos dos alimentos, 89,1% e 84,3% dos alunos apontaram o macarrão instantâneo e condimento em pó industrializado, respectivamente, como alimentos com alto teor de sódio e que faziam parte de sua alimentação. Sobre a percepção das 386 pessoas que participaram da pesquisa, 79,5% acreditavam que o consumo excessivo de sódio era prejudicial à saúde, 38,9% não conheciam os alimentos ricos em sódio, 70% afirmaram ter histórico de hipertensão arterial em suas famílias, porém, apenas 31,9% delas declararam estar atentas ao consumo deste mineral em sua dieta. A metodologia utilizada para a abordagem do assunto foi considerada interessante ou muito interessante para 97,2% dos estudantes. Além do mais, 76,6% dos alunos declararam que pretendem prestar mais atenção em sua alimentação. Os resultados obtidos mostram a importância da utilização de metodologias no ensino que corroborem com a conscientização dos alunos sobre o consumo de sódio.
