The aim of the study: Evaluation of sister hybrids obtained on the basis of early maturity Iodent germplasm inbred lines (FAO 180-250) as a source material for the development of new inbred lines and evaluation of this material’s main breeding qualities as well as of level of hypothetical heterosis in sister crosses and their polymorphism as an integral part of the breeding cycle. Methods: Field method, mathematical-statistical method. Results: The studies investigated sister hybrids obtained by crossing of 8 precocious Iodent germplasm inbred lines, their combining ability for “grain yield” trait and determined whether they can be used as a source material for the synthesis of new homozygous inbred lines. The results of the evaluation of sister hybrids and their testcrosses on the basic economically valuable traits are presented. According to research results in 2013-2015, it was found that sister hybrids with the least variable grain yields by years of research were obtained from the crossing of DK1274 and DK237 inbred lines. The calculations of the correlation coefficients between hypothetical heterosis and genetic distances revealed no significant correlation between them (r=0.118-0.359) as well as between the yield of sister hybrids and genetic distances (r=0.167-0.351). It was found that the least variable indicators of grain yield for the years of research were noted in sister hybrids obtained on the basis of source inbred lines with the most stable manifestation of this indicator (r=0.714). Sister hybrids were noted, which had effects of general combining ability at class 2, regardless of study conditions (DK216 × DK213, DK237 × DK1274, DK714/195 × DK216), indicating the stability of genotype response to growing conditions. Conclusion: The evaluation of 8 precocious constant Iodent germplasm inbred lines on breeding traits revealed the best of them (DK555 and DK1274) in combining ability compared to the DK744 control inbred line. Significant influence of the conditions of research years on all the traits studied was noted. The study of sister hybrids has revealed forms with a significant manifestation of hypothetical heterosis. It was the highest on average in crosses of inbred lines DK234 (137.0%), DK714/195 (122.7%) and DK216 (101.1%), and the smallest in hybrids with inbred lines DK555 (58.5%), DK1274 (65.8%) and DK744 (75.0%). Sister combinations with DK1274 and DK237 inbred lines were characterized by the highest yield stability over the years of study. In determining genetic distances, the most genetically similar inbred lines DK744 (0.136) and DK234 (0.197) to inbred line 207 (P165), which is the classic representative of the Iodent germplasm, are noted.
The data on receipt of photo synthetically active radiation (FAR) on the soil surface and the coefficient of its use over the years and periods of the year depending on the hydrothermal conditions and dynamics of harmful salts in the soil are given. The items of the changes in the species composition of phytocenoses depending on the environmental factors are considered.
About 50% of the world’s distribution of the richest soils on the planet, black soil, is concentrated in Russia. On black soil, 75% of the gross output of grain crops and 50% of livestock production are manufactured. However, the current state of black soils causes concerns about the increasing degradation that threatens Russia’s food security. Black soils are a subject to significant anthropogenic stress; first of all they are exposed to agricultural impact. The problem of degradation of arable black soils is largely due to the deterioration of agrophysical properties and the degree of degradation varies in different soil-climatic zones. The granulometric compositions, density of soil structure, general porosity and water permeability depend on the nature of the soil use. Throughout the entire range of the studied agrophysical soils properties, arable black soils are inferior to virgin analogues located in similar conditions of the landscape. Post-irrigative soils transformed into a set aside are inferior in their agrophysical properties to virgin analogue, but surpass arable soils in some indicators. The range of unfavourable properties of black soils acquired as a result of irrigation is quite wide and manifests itself at almost all levels of their structural organization. It should be noted that irrigation with ecologically safe irrigation norms of 300 m3 / ha does not impair the physical properties of the soil, in contrast to heavy irrigation norms, that determine the unidirectional and noticeable expression of the main indicators in the direction of their deterioration.
Plant carotenoids are important micronutrients in the diet of humans and animals, since they act as precursors for the synthesis of vitamin A in animal cells. The most effective precursor to the vitamin A biosynthesis is β-carotene. Increasing the β-carotene content in maize grain as an important feed and food crop is an urgent task for plant selection. The purpose of this work was to differentiate maize breeding samples from the Dnipro breeding program by the β-carotene content in mature grain. Maize grain of 18 inbreds harvested in 2015 and 5 inbreds harvested in 2016 was researched. Determination of β-carotene content in matured dry grain was carried out after petroleum ether extraction and ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) in the mobile phase of methanol/acetonitrile. The β-carotene content in the grain of genotypes from the Dnipro breeding program was on average 1.020 mg/kg for inbreds grown in 2015, and 0.672 mg/kg for inbreds grown in 2016. These values correspond to the β-carotene content in the grain of the majority of genotypes from world breeding programs selected by methods of classical selection. The inbred DKV3262 with white grain had the smallest content of β-carotene (0.076 mg/kg), while the yellow-coloured line DKD9066 had the highest one (2.146 mg/kg). The variation in the grain β-carotene content in different years of maize cultivation was noted. Inbreds of flint and semident maize showed the general tendency to increase the β-carotene content in grain compared with dent ones. The distribution of the studied inbreds on germplasm types showed the significant variation of β-carotene content in grain and the incidence of relatively high values in all germplasms analyzed. Inbreds containing more than 1.5 mg of β-carotene per 1 kg of grain, DK239, DK206A, DK212, DKD9066 and DKE-1, are emphasized as promising for the selection to increase the content of valuable micronutrients.
