This article analyzes global and regional development perspectives of the oil business. This study uses statistical, financial methods, as well as comparative approach to analyze modern state of the oil industry in the world and oil industry markets in various regions (OPEC, ОECD, Russia, etc.). Results show that current situation in the oil market is characterised by domination of those factors, which will facilitate maintenance of relatively low oil prices. The study develops oil market regulation model. This model takes into account the following main factors: (i) Energy sector development strategies of developing countries, (ii) Geopolitical uncertainties, (iii) Difficulties in forecasting the international geopolitical situation, (iv) Competition for energy sources, (v) The main regulators, which influence both the activity of oil companies and the markets generally.
The global energy system is experiencing a transformation. An analysis of the dynamics of global energy production and consumption indicates that a paradigm shift is occurring toward more reliable and sustainable energy sources with the dominance of natural gas. Even though the reserves-to-production ratio for hydrocarbons is declining, it is natural gas that can ensure the sustainable development of the energy system to meet the growing energy needs of humankind. Natural gas can also significantly reduce the environmental burden. In the medium term, it will be the main source of energy along a gradual transition to renewable energy. Natural gas can serve as a transition fuel within a broader deployment of hybrid energy technologies. Hybridization—the generation of energy using both fossil fuels and renewable energy sources—is one of the most promising areas of energy system development, contributing to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. In our opinion, hybridization based on natural gas is a “bridge to the future” for the world energy system.
Production losses attributable to idle well stock were estimated based on the analysis of 2014-2015 oil production data of Russian vertically integrated oil companies (VIOC). It was shown that one of the main reasons for deactivation of wells is production casing leaks during well operation. The oil production losses of Russian VIOC caused by production casing leaks were estimated. A method is proposed to eliminate production casing leak intervals by expandable systems that employ a hydromechanical expansion method. The results of field application in wells of Povkhneftegaz of LUKOIL-Western Siberia and advantages of application of expandable systems for water shutoff are shown.
