When facing the unique challenge of coating active water lines, Houston Public Works learned that planning, execution, and teamwork are the keys to success.
Recent experience with SLC bat ihown that very fart, ferriteloaded, transmission-line, beam-kicker magnet* can caute sig nificant and undesirable distortion of a 1.5-2.5 kA, 20-10 kV pulse aa it travel* through the magnet. In general, there ii a net lengthening of the pulae, with increases in it* riae and fall timea, a decrease in amplitude, and an unsymmetrical rounding of the flattop. In this partially tutorial treatiie, a number of practical design considerations are discussed in terms of equivalent cir cuits, magnet circuit dispersion and dissipation, undesired cir cuit shunting and coupling, high-voltage breakdown problems and high-order-mode losses that lead to beam tube beating. These effects are linked to the properties of the materials, the presence of radiation and realizable magnet topologies. Mea surements and calculations of some of these characteristics for several magnet designs are reviewed. The results presented come from a truly eclectic effort. 1.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
