Reducing surface contact area by producing textures on the surface leads to a drastic reduction in wear rate. This method is very effective in high speed steel which is used for machining in dry conditions while its effectiveness can be further increased by the application of lubricants. This research paper presents the investigation on wear behaviour of HSS using pin-on-disc dry sliding wear test method under different textured conditions. The tribological parameters like wear rate, wear resistance, material loss and co-efficient of friction were evaluated for textured and nontextured conditions. Micro dimple areal texture and micro linear grinding texture were produced on the HSS surface and the results obtained were compared with non-textured HSS surface to study the influence of surface texture on tribological properties.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
