Recently three cases of carcinoma of the cervix in exceptionally young women required treatment a t the Central Institute for Radiotherapy a t Helsinki a t the same time. The past history and the clinical picture did not correspond to the general opinion that carcinoma of the cervix uteri in young women is especially malignant. On this account I decided to publish these cases. But as a larger basis for this work I collected all cases under the age of thirty diagnosed a t the Central Institute for Radiotherapy and a t the Women's Clinic for the purpose of treating the question more fully. I have collected 28 ))young)) cases of carcinoma of the cervix in all.From 1. 8. 1936 (the hospital was established this date) until 1. 8. 1945 in all 925 cases of carcinoma of the cervix have appeared a t the Central Institute for Radiotherapy: 10 of these have not reached the age of thirty years. In the material from the Women's Clinic (from the end of 1934) the corresponding figures are 18 young women out of 1,117 cases of carcinoma of the cervix1. The frequency of appearance in these two materials was thus 1.4 per cent in the youngest age groups.
