In the present study aqueous, acetone, petroleum ether and chloroform solvents extracts of 6 selected plant seeds (Acacia catechu, Sida cordifolia, Momordica fotida, Albiziz procera, Mesua ferrea and Lantana camare ) are screened for their anti-fungal potential against 4 important fungal species(Candida albicans, Cryptococcus luteotus, Aspergillus niger and Mucor heimalis). Among the six plant seed extracts tested, petroleum ether and acetone extracts showed highest to moderate levels of anti-fungal activity when compared to standard anti-fungal drugs (fluconazole(1mg/ml) and Amphotericin B (150 Units/disc).). The chloroform extracts of Albizia procera seed extract failed to inhibit the growth of Candida and Cryptococcus species. Among the solvent extracts tested, petroleum ether recorded highest significant anti-fungal activity when compared to aqueous, chloroform and acetone extracts.
Aims and Objectives: Assess the association of the congenital malformations with maternal age & analyse the congenital malformations, involving various systems of the body system wise. Materials and Methods: Foetuses of pregnant women attending government hospitals in Hyderabad were screened during a period of one year from October 2011 to September 2012 through ultrasonographic evaluation in the second trimester (12wks to 28wks) for congenital anomalies. Results: The central nervous system involving neural tube defects and musculoskeletal system involvement were the commonest among congenital anomalies affecting elderly maternal age group. Conclusion: Congenital anomalies are increasing in frequency with increasing maternal age & to prevent them more focus should be laid on maternal education, premarital counselling, antenatal care, supplementation with folic acid, prenatal ultrasonography & genetic studies in at-risk individuals.
To study the histology of Thymus gland which is one of the primary lymphoid organs present in the upper mediastinum, beneath the sternum & to evaluate the immunodeficiency of an individual and autoimmune diseases like Myasthenia gravis, Lupus erythematosis, Rheumatoid arthritis, as these are more likely to lead to thymus cancer. Materials and Methods: The present study has been undertaken on thymus specimen of 100 fetuses of different age groups. The fetuses were obtained from the King George Hospital and Victoria Government hospital, Vishakapatnam. Results: In the present study normal micro architecture of thymus has been studied at various fetal ages in chronological order. Conclusion: Thymus is responsible for the provision of the T-lymphocytes to the whole body in newborns and children until puberty. For this reason it is important to know the histology of the gland at different ages.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
