Extensive EM studies have been made in the Ukraine during the last 40 years and a set of reliable results have been received. Data from 3000 Magnetotelluric soundings are presented as maps of effective apparent resistivity at periods of 150 s and 500 s and impedance phase at T = 150 s. The principal results are: S1 map at the scale 1:2500000, tracing and study of Carpathian, Kirovograd and Donbas regional conductivity anomalies, a map of the crustal conductivity for Ukrainian Shield, a study of faults.

Brief review of the earlier studies of Kirovograd electrical conductivity anomaly with emphasis on the field data is presented. The influence of S-effect on the magnetotelluric sounding (MTS) curves in the Ukrainian Shield was estimated by thin film modeling. Comparison of the modeling results with MTS field data shows that resistivity of upper part of consolidated crust underlying sediments in the Ukrainian Shield is regionally much lower than expected. Our recent field data have been presented showing that the Kirovograd electrical conductivity anomaly continues under the Black Sea.
In the paper the deep structure of the Carpathian region of Ukraine from the plate tectonics point of view is illustrated. According to geophysical research on regional sections the kimberlite formation of tectonomagmatic activation and seismofocal zone of Hercynian tectogenesis are found. Contrary to existing views the obtained data indicate that West European microplate came under the East European plate. In the light of the stated the prospects of oil-and-gas presence of the region are analysed.
