ABSTRAKArtikel ini ditulis dengan maksud membangun kesadaran literasi sains pada pembelajaran IPA SMP pada abad 21. Artikel ini disusun berdasarkan penilaian PISA dimana Indonesia berada diperingkat rendah dalam pencapaian siswa-siswi untuk sains, membaca, dan matematika. Sehingga hal ini melatarbelakangi pentingnnya literasi sains dalam mengembangkan Pendidikan IPA terutama pada abad 21. Metodologi penulisan yang digunakan adalah kajian pustaka yang berisikan tinjauan mengenai pentingnya literasi sains dari berbagai sumber pustaka. Artikel ini membahas mengenai pembelajaran IPA SMP yang diterapkan pada abad 21 dengan paradigma pembelajaran yang berpusat pada peserta didik. Keberhasilan pembelajaran literasi sains ditunjukkan apabila peserta didik memahami apa yang dipelajari serta dapat mengaplikasikannya dalam menyelesaikan berbagai kehidupan seharihari. Oleh karena itu, pembelajaran literasi sains penting bagi peserta didik untuk memahami apa yang dipelajari. Literasi sains dinilai cocok dan penting untuk mengembangkan pembelajaran IPA SMP abad 21.Kata Kunci: literasi sains, pembelajaran IPA SMP, abad 21.
The development of Science and Technology has a positive and negative impact. The negative impact caused by the development of science and technology shows that education is faced with the challenge of producing graduates who can solve problems. Meanwhile, on the other hand, it is known that the scientific literacy skills of students in Indonesia are still low. The socioscientific issue is an important element that needs to be presented in science and technology learning activities. The purpose of the article is to describe the application of socioscientific issues-based learning as an effort to train high order thinking skills in junior high school students. This article is a literature study where related articles are reviewed and the information obtained is compiled into writing. it can conclude if socioscientific issue-based learning can be used as an effort to improve high order thinking skill for junior high school's student.
