* BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study was prospectively carried out to evaluate the postoperative complications and visual results following posterior chamber intraocular lens (PCIOL) implantation in children with unilateral traumatic cataract.
* PATIENTS AND METHODS: We prospectively evaluated 40 children, 12 years or younger, with traumatic cataract (blunt trauma, n = 22 eyes, repaired penetrating eye injury, n = 18 eyes) undergoing PCIOL implantation with a minimum follow-up period of one year. Children with posterior segment ocular injury were excluded.
* RESULTS: The postoperative complications were significantly higher in the penetrating eye injury group as compared to blunt trauma group (ie, pupillary capture 44.44% vs 9.09%, posterior capsulotomy rate 83.33% vs 40.90% and IOL decentration 27.77% vs 4.54%). The final visual acuity was 6/12 or better in 38.8% and 86.36% of eyes with penetrating eye injury and blunt trauma, respectively.
* CONCLUSION: Extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) with PCIOL implantation in traumatic cataract following blunt trauma results in better visual outcome and fewer complications compared to penetrating eye injury if the posterior segment is not involved.

Background: Various factors have been identified as influencing factors of breast cancer. The free radicals can cause increased oxidative stress by negatively affecting the body’s nucleic acids, lipids and proteins leading to various illnesses including cancer. Therefore, this study was aimed at discovering the progress of treatment of breast carcinoma by exploring the connections of the disease with free radical injury. Methods: The present study was conducted among 30 breast carcinoma patients received in the surgery department of BRD Medical College Gorakhpur. Determination of the levels superoxide dismutase (SOD) (the procedure of photoluminescence), catalase (method of Cavarochi) and the lipid peroxidise was done. The results were presented as mean and standard error (SE). P value of <0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: Among the total participants, 73% patients had infiltrating ductal carcinoma and 27% patients had intraductal carcinoma. The dismutase levels showed an increase in the post-operative patients for both the groups. The catalase levels and the lipid peroxide levels showed a reduction in the postoperative patients (p<0.05).Conclusions: The present study result showed that the low amounts of SOD and catalase may not be sufficient to detoxify high amounts of free radicals. The administration of catalase could help in reducing the symptoms. Though, low amounts of SOD and catalase may not be sufficient to detoxify high amounts of free radicals. The administration of enzymes could help in the treatment of breast cancer patients.
The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of structured psychotherapy on anxiety among pre operative and post-operative patients undergoing abdominal surgery. The sample comprised of 40 patients divided into two groups experimental group 20 & control group 20. Speilbergers state anxiety inventory was used to collect data. ‘t’ value & Anova was calculated for the comparison of pretest and post test. State anxiety score of experimental and control group of patients. Results showed that there was marked difference in pre test and post test state anxiety scores of patients in experimental group where as in control group there was a statistically significant difference between pre test and post test scores. However no significant effect was found in control group. However no significant effect was found according to age, educational qualification, religion, technique of surgery & income support system on pre test anxiety scores of patients in both experimental and control group.
