La enseñanza del inglés en la época actual se vale del uso de tecnologías como herramientas necesarias en el proceso de enseñanza – aprendizaje del idioma para que éste sea más efectivo. El artículo presenta los resultados de la investigación realizada sobre el empleo de las TIC como competencia digital para el aprendizaje autónomo de la lengua inglesa por estudiantes universitarios durante la pandemia del Coronavirus COVID-19. La metodología del estudio es cuantitativa descriptiva; los participantes fueron 85 estudiantes de la Facultad de Lenguas UAEMex seleccionados mediante un muestreo no probabilístico. La obtención de datos fue a través del Background Questionnaire (Liu, et. al, 2008), el cual fue diseñando y administrado vía electrónica. Los resultados sugieren que los estudiantes sí han hecho uso de sus competencias digitales para el autoaprendizaje de la lengua inglesa con algunas limitantes por la conectividad a Internet. Finalmente, se establece que esta contingencia sanitaria plantea retos para los profesores para no depender únicamente de la conectividad a Internet para el estudio autónomo.
El proceso educativo a nivel mundial vio modificada su metodología, principalmente en la modalidad presencial, debido a la pandemia por coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Esta pandemia trasladó la educación presencial a modalidades como la remota y virtual, lo que tuvo como resultado la incorporación no planificada de las TIC en el proceso educativo en todos los niveles de educación. Dicha improvisación no permitió que los docentes identificarán las herramientas tecnológicas existentes para su incorporación en el desarrollo de sus actividades académicas, evidenciando la falta de información a este respecto. Este documento describe nueve herramientas de Google para generar guía que permita a los profesores conocer dichas herramientas y como integrarlas de manera general sus procesos educativos. La investigación es de corte cualitativo, descriptivo, la información se obtuvo a través de la recopilación documental. Las nueve herramientas descritas son Gmail, Drive, Calendario, Documentos, Hojas de cálculo y Presentaciones, Formularios, Sites, Google Meet, YouTube y Classroom, siendo éstas las más comunes durante la pandemia. La investigación permitió describirlas, además de presentar una propuesta de incorporación en el proceso educativo. La investigación permitió identificar la existencia de un gran número de herramientas tecnológicas en la Web; así como la necesidad de desarrollar en los docentes una perspectiva global e internacional sobre la educación. Por lo que la incorporación de las nuevas herramientas tecnológicas, como Google, es fundamental en la formación y capacitación a lo largo de la vida de los docentes para formar estudiantes del siglo XXI.
Las tecnologías han sido un aspecto fundamental para la enseñanza – aprendizaje de la lengua inglesa en las diferentes épocas de la historia del desarrollo de la competencia lingüístico-comunicativa. Esta investigación pretende especificar el conocimiento, uso y dominio de las tecnologías tradicionales y las nuevas tecnologías empleadas por profesores y estudiantes de lengua inglesa en la Facultad de Lenguas de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMex). La investigación es cuantitativa con alcance exploratorio correlacional. La obtención de datos se realizó por medio del Background Questionnaire (Liu, et al., 2008), el cual fue adaptado y diseñado en Microsoft Forms. El instrumento fue enviado vía correo electrónico, mismo que fue respondido por 13 profesores de la academia de inglés y 123 estudiantes de diversos niveles de dominio de inglés. La competencia lingüística identifica a un hablante-oyente ideal, en una comunidad lingüística homogénea que domina su lengua de manera perfecta Chomsky (1965); mientras que la competencia comunicativa visualiza el conocimiento lingüístico del sujeto, además de las reglas sociolingüísticas, así como su habilidad de emplear dichos conocimientos en distintas circunstancias (Hymes, 1972, citado en Whyte, 2019). Canale (1983, citado en Erton, 2017) desarrolla mayormente el modelo de Hymes, mismo que fue utilizado por Bachman y Palmer (1996, citado en Erton, 2017), proponiendo el término habilidad lingüística comunicativa. La habilidad lingüística comunicativa en lengua extranjera es una de las ocho competencias claves para el desarrollo humano, al igual que la competencia digital (OJEU, 2006). La competencia digital implica el uso de las TIC propias para el trabajo, el entretenimiento y la comunicación. Las TIC permiten crear, almacenar, intercambiar y procesar información en diversos formatos (Cabero, 2015; Sánchez Duarte, 2008; Tello, 2008). Los resultados obtenidos permiten determinar un nivel experimentado en el dominio de las tecnologías por parte de participantes, demostrando el desarrollo de la competencia digital. Sin embargo, es necesaria la formación continua para disminuir la brecha digital.
La enseñanza de la lengua inglesa se ha desarrollado generalmente en la modalidad presencial en las instituciones educativas, sin embargo, a finales del 2019, por la pandemia de COVID-19, el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje se cambió drásticamente a la modalidad a distancia, provocando diversas problemáticas. En este sentido, a través de este estudio se pretende conocer el proceso de enseñanza del inglés con el uso de las TIC en el pregrado de la UAEMex durante la pandemia para establecer el grado de competencia digital como elemento fundamental para el aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida. La investigación es cuantitativa descriptiva; los datos fueron obtenidos con el cuestionario Background Questionnaire (Liu, M., et al., 2008). El estudio permitió observar que la mayoría de profesores han utilizado las tecnologías por más de 5 años, por lo que se consideran experimentados en el uso de las mismas, además, utilizaron diversos métodos de enseñanza, tales como aprendizaje basado en proyectos; en suma, desarrollaron actividades con el uso de videos y recursos web. Los resultados permiten concluir que los docentes tienen el dominio de la competencia digital necesaria para el desarrollo de sus clases de lengua inglesa como lo establecen los estándares de la misma UAEMex, lo que permite su integración a una educación globalizada.
En esta obra se expone y analiza el estado del conocimiento del campo de las investigaciones sobre la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de las lenguas extranjeras en México del período 2012-2021: su producción, autores, rasgos contextuales y problemáticas más sobresalientes, hallazgos centrales, evolución y tendencias tanto a nivel nacional como por entidades federativas, así como la metodología seguida en su elaboración. En su realización participaron cerca de 150 investigadores e investigadoras de 28 estados del país adscritos a 34 instituciones de educación superior, quienes en conjunto recolectaron y analizaron 879 trabajos. Dada la cobertura y profundidad lograda mediante la colaboración de este nutrido número de investigadores, el libro se configura como una lectura ampliamente recomendada para los especialistas en la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de las lenguas extranjeras; para los estudiantes de licenciatura y posgrado que se forman para desempeñarse en dicho campo y para los tomadores de decisiones responsables de la formulación de políticas y programas relacionados con el mismo. De igual manera, se espera que la información que aquí se expone aporte elementos útiles y confiables y contribuya a la toma de decisiones de directivos, maestros, formadores de maestros y padres de familia en torno a una diversidad de asuntos relacionados con la enseñanza y el aprendizaje de las lenguas extranjeras, de forma tal que coadyuve a que dicha enseñanza sea más acorde a las necesidades y características de los alumnos mexicanos.
