This study examined the effect of the value of the currency on international inbound tourist numbers to Turkey from Germany and Russia, which are the top two tourist generating countries for Turkey. Two different Turkish Lira regimes are investigated with Threshold Vector Autoregressive (Threshold-VAR) models, using the real broad effective exchange rate for Turkey as a threshold variable. The endogenous variables vectors are the macroeconomic variables of the tourist origin countries: the real broad effective exchange rate, consumer price index ratio (proxying for the price level), and total industry production (proxying for income level) for Germany and Russia. Because of data constraints, the estimated Threshold-VAR models for Germany and Russia covered different periods
This study aims to make a bibliometric analysis of published studies on tourism growth. It was scanned from the Web of Science database based on the publications with the phrase "tourism growth" in the title. No field filtering was done during the scanning process and a total of 941 publications were reached. When the source countries of the publications were examined, it was determined that they mostly originated from China, the United States of America, and Turkey. The top three most frequently keywords are economic growth, tourism, and tourism development, respectively. While Turkey has the highest average number of citations, Eastern Mediterranean University has the highest number of studies and citations. In addition, the panel co-integration method is widely used in studies. There is no consensus on the relationship between tourism and economic growth. The findings differ according to the selected sample and period.
In this study, the effects of political stability and the absence of violence/terrorism on tourism were empirically analysed, from the 2005 to 2018 period. A literature review on terrorism, violence, and political stability in tourism is included in the first part. The second part panel co-integration analysis has been carried out worldwide within 137 countries. As a result of the analysis, a positive long-run relationship was found between the change in the number of tourists and the political stability - no violence index. In addition, it was tried to produce evidence of whether there is an endogeneity between them.
