Stochastic process algebras have been proposed as compositional specification formalisms for performance models. In this paper, we describe a tool which aims at realising all beneficial aspects of compositional performance modelling, the TIPPtool. It incorporates methods for compositional specification as well as solution, based on state-of-the-art techniques, and wrapped in a user-friendly graphical front end. Apart from highlighting the general benefits of the tool, we also discuss some lessons learned during development and application of the TIPPtool. A non-trivial model of a real life communication system serves as a case study to illustrate benefits and limitations.

Mathematic-heuristic Performance evaluation of the Medium access control of PROFIBUSIn thispaper models are developedby means of mathematical and heuristical methods. These models are approximations which can be usedfor the analysis of mean waiting time of messages in the fieldbus PROFIBUS. The models are based on in literature so-called polling models. For the purpose of Performance evaluation of the PROFIBUS-Medium Access Control (MAC), these models are modified and adapted successively in an analytic-heuristical manner.Based on initial waiting time approximations, several approximations are developed and compared to Simulation results. The most appropriate approximations are finally selected.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
