Ausgehend vom Wandel des Sozialstaats verändert sich die Rolle des überschuldeten Menschen vom Objekt staatlicher Fürsorge hin zum „aktiven Schuldner“. Die betroffenen Personen bemühen sich, unter den Überschuldungsbedingungen eine stabile Identität aufrechtzuerhalten. Dies wird zunehmend gesellschaftlich relevant, da es hierbei nicht nur um individuelle Bewältigungsstrategien, sondern um die Produktion gesellschaftlicher Ordnung geht. Für die überschuldeten ist diese Ordnung zweifelhaft geworden, weshalb sie eine neue Ordnung erzeugen müssen. Vor dem Hintergrund dieser Prozesse geht es im vorliegenden Beitrag um folgende Fragen: Welche Auswirkungen hat die Überschuldungssituation auf die Überschuldeten? Wie gestalten sie innerhalb des finanzialisierten Alltags ihre Lebenswelt, wenn ihre Möglichkeiten zur sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Teilhabe beschränkt werden? Und welche Strategien wählen sie, um ihre Identität zu erhalten?
