Obesity is an issue of public health concern as it contributes to chronic non-communicable diseases despite the fact that it is preventable. Dietary practices and environment have been associated with increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, overweight and obesity among young people. This study aimed to assess the dietary patterns associated with obesity among Babcock University students. A descriptive cross-sectional study was used to obtain data from 391 participants. Results reveal respondent’s knowledge was 12.06 ± 2.3 translating to an 80% prevalence performance, level of perception was 37.23 ± 9.23 with prevalence of 59.0%, dietary practices was 19.6 ± 5.23 with 59% prevalence. Factors influencing dietary practices revealed mean score of 15.2 ± 4.5 with 72.3% prevalence performance. The factors identified in this study has a great influence on dietary practices of the study participants. In conclusion Babcock University students have an excellent knowledge of dietary practices related to obesity. They also had good dietary practices. The identified factors had a great influence on the study participants.
Tertiary institutions are ivory towers where academic and moral excellences are expected to be promoted. However, it has become where sexual harassment is a common deviant practice. This study aimed to determine the knowledge and prevalence of sexual harassment among college students in a private institution in Ogun state, Nigeria. The study employed a cross-sectional survey design to enroll 394 college students across the undergraduate levels of the university, using a 22-item self-administered validated instrument by a multi-stage sampling procedure. Demographic characteristics, knowledge and prevalence of college students on sexual harassments were measured. The mean age of respondents was 18.84 ± 1.833years, with majority (71%) being between ages 15–19, and 70% being females. About 39% and 38% respectively confirmed they have been victims of sexual harassment or know friends that have been harassed sexually. Level of knowledge on sexual harassment was 3.90 ± 0.866 and prevalence of sexual harassment was 4.88 ± 3.194 computed on a mean and standard deviation scale, translate to a prevalence score of 40.67%. Prevalence of Sexual Harassment was high among college student even though they had good Knowledge. A more proactive measures needs to be put in place to curb the menace in a Christian own institution of higher learning.
Risks associated with drugs and treatments are a key concern in clinical investigations of therapeutics. There is a keen attention to side effects and adverse events included in critical safety documentation presented in regulatory submissions for new drugs. Likewise, Companion Diagnostic (CDx) technology is subject to rigorous regulated research and testing because of the risk associated with a false test result that could affect clinical decisions and treatment. The rigor of testing imposed by the regulatory path to clearance or approval is intended to ensure an assay is reliable when performance criteria are defined by a fixed set of these variables so that there is the least risk of false test results. The clinical validation of these assays is especially important when the test result is used to manage therapeutic decisions for patients. The same patients that expect a clinician to use reliable diagnostics to recommend treatment may also be recruited to participate in CDx clinical investigations. This educational review of CDx product development, regulations, and clinical investigations involving human subjects is important to: (1) Clinicians who rely on the test results to manage patient care; (2) Patients who trust these test results are informing the clinician, and (3) Hospital administrators who oversee human subjects safety and data intergrity for clinical investigations in the personalized medicine space.
The time to prepare for successful ageing is now. There are great Chances for one to experience both the joy and the frustration of old age. Ageing is an unavoidable fact of life and with it comes some fewchallenges.Manypeople begin to notice vision changes in their forties. In Nigeria, it was estimated that about1.13 million individuals age 40 years are currently blind, 2.7 million adults aged 40 years are estimated to have moderate visual impairment and an additional 400,000 adults are severely visually impaired. Also 4.25 million adults aged 40 years in Nigeria are visually impaired or blind 1 The eye is an organ for sight and vision system. The sight is one of the most important sense organ needed for anyone to live happily 2 Our sight might start having some age-related changes and disturbances in performance as we age particularly as we reach the age of 60 and beyond 3 Some of the age-related eye diseases that have greater potential for affecting our quality of life and productivity as we grow older are glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy 3 . Just as the body ages, so will the eye sight begin to change and age too visual acuity might also get affected. This change could be caused by heredity, environment, behaviour, weather and even the kind of work we do while we are young. The good thing is that nearly all age-related eye diseases can be treated with either medicine, out-patient surgery, diet and behaviour modification. Other age-related eye diseases are cataracts, presbyopia, dry eyes, floaters, and dystrophy, drooping eyelids, etc. Many changes are normal and common as one age therefore, all that is needed is proper management and early detection. These changes includes losing focus that is making it harder to focus, vision up close, declining contrast and colour sensitivity making it harder to distinguish between colours such as blue from black, or where an object ends and its background begin, needing more light to see well and more time to adjust to changing levels of light. One might need light when going from a room that is dark to one that is brightly lit and while reading, driving all doing some daily activities
