The synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from methanol, carbon monoxide, and oxygen catalyzed by cuprous chloride in a slurry reaction system is reported. The synthesis may be carried out in two steps, oxidation and reduction; the influence of the operating parameters on both these steps was studied separately. The results of the one-step redox system and a tentative reaction scheme are also reported.
