Krahmer [Band 131nor run-off occured. A normally ploughed plot of the same size (10 x 15 m = 150 m2) showed a heavy puddling and a low run-off already after a sprinkling time of 20 min. After 120 min the run-off amounted to about 2.5 mm = 20 70 of the rain quantity and the soil removal was measured with 3 kg (= 200 kg/ha). From the results of the measured pore sizes, water tensions and water contents of the soil could be concluded that soil removal by rain storms from normally ploughed Gray-brown podzolic soil is mainly effected by the decrease of the infiltration rate due to the puddling of the upper centimeters of the Ap-horizon.
Summary
A field instrument to determine saturated permeability is presented. It is possible to take several samples and obtain measurements quickly. The instrument, adapted for a series of measurements, permits the identification of erroneous values and allows repeated measurements. Calculating permeability values through self‐made tables or nomograms make field results immediately available for the description of the cross section. Transporting the samples to the laboratory is no longer required. The instrument is sturdy, and requires little maintenance.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
