The diet composition of the pandalid shrimp, Plesionika narval was determined, based on an analysis of two samples of 250 specimens each, collected in March and August 2004, respectively, in the Aegean Sea.Plesionika narval displayed a diversified diet, mainly based on Crustacea. The vacuity coefficient values and the stomach fullness percentages indicated a higher feeding activity of this species in March than in August. This is probably due to the accumulation of energy resources for the spawning period in March. P. narval seems to be an active predator but also an occasional scavenger, utilizing a wide variety of benthic resources.Multidimensional analyses demonstrated that the diets of P. narval in March and August were significantly different. Moreover, no significant differences were observed in the diet composition of males and females in the two groups of specimens studied.
