The article presents an alternative means of public transport such as a trolleybus as an example of an ecological vehicle. Three still functioning trolleybus systems in Poland were discussed, with reference to rolling stock, as well as investments that were implemented to develop trolleybus lines. The subject of environmental and economic benefits resulting from the exploitation of trolleybuses in relation to bus and tram communications was also discussed.
The article presents an overview of modern trams, operated in public transport. The tram system which was neglected in Poland, has been experiencing dynamic development in recent years. As part of EU projects, Polish cities have begun investing in new rolling stock and infrastructure. Therefore, investments in public transport have made it more competitive in relation to individual transport. This prompted many manufacturers to design trams, not only with higher quality, comfort of travel, but also meeting the applicable environmental standards.
Safety is one of the most important aspects of the railway sector. Th e issue is of particular signifi cance in the transportation of hazardous goods that pose a threat to human health and life and have a damaging eff ect on the natural environment. Modern structures of freight wagons meet the requirements specifi ed mainly in the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail (RID), enabling safe transportation of these goods by rail. Equipping them in appropriate passive safety mechanisms makes it possible to limit the negative eff ects of any potential adverse events. Th ese mechanisms feature subassemblies that make it possible to absorb impact energy, eliminate the wheel climbing phenomenon, detect instances of derailment, and reduce the damage caused to wagon fi lling valves.
