Career counselors should familiarize themselves with technological resources so that they can encourage job seekers and career changers to incorporate more search techniques for seeking, finding, and obtaining employment opportunities. This article presents electronic technology applications such as the following: communicating with others involved in the process of flnding employment: sending electronic rCsumCs to potential employers: searching for geographic, economic, and demographic characteristics: and obtaining career development information and guidance. One result of recent employment trends is that individuals are being propelled to arm themselves with more strategies to carefully manage their own career development. A reduction in time and resources by employers has created new approaches in career development programs that encourage individuals to assume greater responsibility for their career management (Mariani, 1995-96;Schmidt, 1994).Counselors can facilitate their clients' career development by encouraging increased application of technology that is appropriate and effective for that purpose. Drummond and Ryan ( 1995) strongly suggest that career counselors develop computer skills. Counselors can help clients by familiarizing themselves with the most current technological applications and by evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of these new instruments. These new technologies should not replace traditional career management procedures but should enhance and expand already existing strategies (Kennedy, 1994;Kennedy & Morrow, 1995).To use electronic technology for job searches to its maximum capacity requires access to the Internet. The better people are at searching, accessing, and sending information electronically, the better they will be at performing job search applications. The purpose of this article is to present electronic job search applications so that Thomas G. Bratina is a systems analyst at Protective Life Corporation i n Binningham. Alabama. hriren A.
