The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between self-efficacy, a concept that has an important role in human life, and different demographic variables and the predictive roles of psychological resilience and positivity on self-efficacy. The research was carried out with 844 students studying at four different universities in provinces of Istanbul, Samsun, Bursa and Ankara in Turkey. Participants completed the questionnaire packet including the General Self-Efficacy Scale, the Brief Psychological Resilience Scale, the Positivity Scale and a personal information form. The analyses of the data were carried out via SPSS 20. The results showed that the female subjects tended to report lower self-efficacy than the males and participants living in cities and high income participants reported higher self-efficacy than the participants living in villages or small towns and the low income participants. Additionally, it may be stated that the participants who perceived their parents as democratic, negligent and protective reported higher levels of self-efficacy than those who perceived their parents as authoritarian. The results also indicated a moderate positive relationship between psychological resilience and self-efficacy, and a low positive correlation between self-efficacy and positivity. Psychological resilience and positivity were found to be important predictors of self-efficacy.
Psychological well-being which is an important concept for individual mental health involves maintaining meaningful aims in life, developing quality relationships with others and struggling with life to ensure personal development. Based on the importance of the concept of psychological well-being, in this study, it is aimed to determine the predictors of psychological well-being of prospective teachers who are expected to make a contribution in the healthy development of students. A total of 378 prospective teachers have participated to the study which was conducted according to the general screening model. Path analysis was used in the analysis of the data to test the predictive roles of unconditional self-acceptance, perfectionistic cognitions and perceived income levels of prospective teachers on their psychological well-being level. Results indicated that psychological well-being has a positive significance but low correlation with unconditional self-acceptance and perfectionistic cognitions. In addition, it was found that of unconditional self-acceptance, perfectionistic cognitions and perceived income level accounted for 16% of the total variance of psychological well-being. It was also determined that female participants’ psychological well-being scores were higher than males’ and psychological well-being levels of participants who perceived their income level as good were higher than those perceived their income level as medium and low.
AbstractIn this research, the relationship between general self-efficacy of school psychological counselor candidates and self-efficacy beliefs of that regarding special education was investigated. According to sex, there was no significant difference (t =, 126, p> .05). There was no statistically significant relationship was found between participants' general self-efficacy beliefs and self-efficacy beliefs regarding special education (p>.05).
