School counselors are uniquely positioned to promote college going and improve lagging postsecondary matriculation for Latino men. Hipolito-Delgado and Lee’s empowerment framework guided this narrative inquiry to consider how school counselors (dis)empower Latinos via (in)access to college-going information. Findings revealed that participants experienced clear pathways or prohibitive roadblocks through the actions of school counselors as gatekeepers. Implications for school counseling practice and future research are situated within recommendations for creating more equitable college pathways.

This article builds upon Yosso’s Community Cultural Wealth framework to propose a Latinidad model of Maternal Cultural Wealth (MCW). Drawing from the experiences of Latinos whose persistence motivations are rooted in their desire to honor mothers for their love, resilience, protection, and sacrifice, MCW proposes filial piety and custodial, emotional, and provident forms of capital to illuminate our understanding of the ways mothers motivate Latino men to aspire to and persist within postsecondary education.

This article contributes to our understanding of the gap in college access by examining (a) the extent to which and (b) how high school counseling focused on college broadens access. We extend Engberg and Gilbert’s typology of schools based on high school counseling norms and resources. Using recent data from the High School Longitudinal Study of 2009, we identified three types of schools: norm-driven, resource-rich, and divergent.

This article examines administrators' perspectives related to embracing and fulfilling a diversityand access-centered mission at urban-serving universities with high Latinx enrollment.Considering today's context of higher education-whereby access and opportunities for Latinx and other marginalized populations has become increasingly stratified-this timely work seeks to foster dialogue regarding how to best uphold an access-centered mission. To achieve this, we framed the study using a critical lens that defines leadership for access as a leadership model that must focus on transformation for the greater good. Our critical lens also critically interrogates the meaning and implementation of "diversity" agendas on America's college campuses. Organizational sensemaking offers an analytical frame to situate administrators' accounts and trigger sensemaking processes, particularly with respect to identity and enactment of the environment. The study analyzes interviews with 21 administrators across four urban campuses within the same state and examines the administrators' commitment to and fulfillment of an access-and diversity-centered mission. The study categorizes the administrators' perspectives into three key areas: 1) diversity as an assumed identity as a byproduct of situation within a diverse region; 2) diversity as a double-edged sword; and 3) enactment of a diversity-and access-centered mission.

In this article, Kervick and colleagues posit that restorative practices (RP) implementation promises to mitigate educational inequities resulting from discipline disparities for youth with disabilities and youth of color. Recent efforts to reduce these disparities have emphasized more relational approaches to behavioral change. Kervick et al. argue that nonpunitive restorative approaches promise to mitigate discipline disparities for racialized youth and youth with disabilities within a schoolwide multitiered systems of support framework only if implemented with an emphasis on educational access and equity. They offer practical tools and strategies to support teachers with implementation of inclusive, accessible, and equitable Tier 1 restorative circles.

In this essay, the authors accomplish three tasks: (a) identify common limitations of programs designed to increase the success rates of Latina/o college students; (b) describe the common characteristics of programs that exhibit effective practice; and (c) provide a framework to guide colleges and universities in designing effective program components that address the common factors impeding Latina/o student success in college.
