Mikulicz's disease is a unique condition involving the enlargement of the lacrimal and salivary glands, similar to that observed in Sjogren's syndrome; however, Mikulicz's disease is clinically characterized by infrequent autoimmune reactions and responsiveness to glucocorticoid treatment. The ultrasound features of the lacrimal and salivary glands in patients with IgG4-Mikulicz's disease were characterized by multiple hypoechoic areas of varying sizes within the enlarged glands. IgG4 serum level was also elevated, in contrast to the detection of normal levels in Sjogren's syndrome. In this article, we intended to illustrate a case of Mikulicz's disease with clinical and imaging features.
Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is a chronic disease caused by the human papillomavirus and can affect both children and adults. Although it is a benign disease, papilloma growth can cause severe, sometimes life-threatening airway obstruction. We report the case of a 28-year-old male patient who was admitted to the hospital with a fever and prolonged cough. A computed tomography (CT) scan showed solid and cavitated nodules in his right lung and solid nodules on his vocal cords. Bronchoscopy demonstrated polypoid lesions on his vocal cords. Histopathological study of the lesions confirmed a diagnosis of respiratory papillomatosis.
Traumatic lumbar artery injuries are quite uncommon, and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) lesions are also rare. The clinical symptoms associated with AVF of the lumbar artery are often vague and non-specific and can be masked by symptoms due to the spinal cord injury. Therefore, AVF of the lumbar artery can often be missed if the performance of a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) scan is absent. In this article, we portrait a case of post-traumatic lumbar artery AVF along with pseudoaneurysm in a 40-year-old who suffered from pain in the right lumbar region. After endovascular intervention therapy for one month, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was 1 in comparison with 8 prior to treatment. Thus, an endovascular intervention should be considered an effective treatment option for AVF and pseudoaneurysm of the LA.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
