I det centrala innehållet för religionskunskap 7-9 i läroplanen för grundskolan Lgr22 ingår "centrala tankegångar i kristendom, judendom, islam, hinduism och buddhism" och "religionernas uppkomst, spridning och geografiska utbredning i dag" (Skolverket, Lgr22). Elever förväntas lära sig om bland annat kristendomens uppkomst, vilket innebär att man talar om Jesus. Som redovisas senare i artikeln återkommer i flera läromedel påståenden om vem Jesus egentligen var, vad han gjorde, vad han sade, och även vad han hade för avsikter. Detta är frågor om den historiske Jesus.Frågan om vilken plats vetenskapliga rekonstruktioner av den historiska Jesus kan ha i religionskunskapsundervisningen är inte välbeforskad (Robbins 2011, Ryan 2005, Walshe & Copley 2001. En som har lyft frågan är Sven-Åke Selander, professor i kyrko-och missionsstudier vid Lunds universitet. I sin bok Undervisa i religionskunskap (1993) ägnar Selander ett kapitel åt "Religionskunskap i ett historiskt kritiskt perspektiv." Som exempel på bruket av ett historiskt kritiskt perspektiv diskuterar Selander frågan: "Om Jesus funnits -vem var han då?" (1993: 39-42). Enligt Selander kom betydelsen av historiskt kritiska perspektiv att lyftas fram av teologer på 1950-talet i ett försök att försvara teologins vetenskaplighet. Perspektivet fick därefter genomslag även i svensk kristendomsundervisning då läroplanen för grundskolan 1962 (Lgr62) krävde att "man skulle arbeta med vetenskapliga metoder även i kristendomsundervisningen" (Selander 1993: 33). Enligt Selander borde historiskt kritiska perspektiv på bland annat Jesus som historisk person även fortsättningsvis ingå i religionskunskap eftersom undervisningen därmed blir vetenskaplig.I denna artikel tar jag motsatt ståndpunkt till Selander. Jag argumenterar för att lärare och läromedel i religionskunskap på högstadiet och gymnasiet bör undvika diskussioner om den historiske Jesus. Jag redogör för flera skäl till att en lärare kan tänkas vilja diskutera den historiske Jesus och jag förklarar varför de ändå bör undvika detta. I mina diskussioner refererar jag till läroböcker i religionskunskap avsedda för högstadiet och gymnasiet som publicerats 2011 eller senare och diskuterar dem främst i ljuset av de läroplaner som gällde när de skrevs, dvs Lgr11 och Gy11 med tillhörande kommentarmaterial, men även i ljuset av läroplanen i religionskunskap i Lgr22 och dess kommentarmaterial.1 Josefus, Judiska fornminnen 18: 63-64 citeras i svensk översättning av Wassén & Hägerland (2016: 67). Det är troligt att delar av detta korta stycke har lagts till senare av kristna skrivare. 2 Det är oklart om alla tre skriver om Jesus. Suetonius, som skriver år 115, berättar att under kejsaren Claudius (reg. 41-54) deporterades alla judar från Rom på grund av upplopp som anstiftats av en man vid namn Chrestus.
