This study focuses on generating product using agricultural waste as well develop an alternative construction material that will lessen the social and environmental issues. It also paved the way to the recognition of using coconut shells and fiber as substitute for aggregates in developing concrete hollow blocks. This paper presents the result on the workability and compressive strength of concrete containing various percentage of coconut shell content as partial aggregate replacement. Workability test and compressive strength test were conducted in accordance to ASTM C136 and ASTM C137 respectively. Results show that replacement of appropriate coconut shell content able to produce workable concrete with satisfactory strength. Integration of coconut shell enhanced the strength of concrete making it to be the highest as compared to conventional concrete mixture.
Recycling of concrete debris can make a contribution to reduce the total environmental impact of the building sector. To increase the scope for recycling in the future, aspects of recycling have to be included in the design phase. Besides, aggregate sources near Metro Manila are almost depleted, so aggregates have to be brought from far quarries. Consequently, reclaiming aggregates from concrete debris would lead to environmental and economic benefits. This experimental study aimed to use crushed concrete debris as alternative fine aggregate in a mortar mixture. A conventional mortar mixture will be compared to concrete debris mixture of the same proportions.
In view of the issue related to the demand of housing, the Philippine Government must find some alternative ways to lessen the expenses without altering the quality of the housing projects, the study paved the way to evaluate a comparison between the prefabricated housing components in modular house and the traditionally made housing components (CHB) in terms of cost, efficiency, effectiveness, and the time to spend during construction. It also attempts to search for the development and production of low cost housing, the end-users feedback and other institutions that used these materials and its impact to the market. One of the interesting insights in the study is that prefabricated components has a significance difference in terms of construction cost as compare to the traditional methods due to the materials, and fast and short time duration of construction.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
